Guest guest
Welcome to the group michelle so glad to have you. Eva Hi! I am and I am from NC. I am 38 years old. My husband is in the service, I used to be too. Now I stay home with our 3 children. I am just starting Thin Within. I have the book and I am waiting on the workbook. There are no groups close to me here, so I joined this group in hopes of learning, gaining, and giving support. From what I have read Intuitive Eating and Thin Within are the same basically, right? The one exception being the the religious aspect? I saw a post from Sara about the book When Women Stop Hating Their Bodies, I had to order it lol. It sounds like just what I need to read! Anyone who has read it, how was it? Thanks for having me and I hope to get to know everyone soon!
Guest guest
Yes you are right is is very similar just that it adds the Christian prospective I have been doiing it for 21/2 years Eva Welcome Michele. I haven't read Thin Within so I will let those that have respond as to how close to IE they have found it or not? Wanted to add that the Book List in the Files section at this group's (Yahoo) site also has reviews written by members here so you and others can find out more about a book than just its title and author. I have read WWSHTB and found it very insightful for me. I didn't read it until I had been doing IE for over 2 years and found it to be a good 'next level' in that it had lots of related experiences from women who had been in non-dieting groups for a long time too. If I read right thru a book, it seems like I don't get as much from it as if I read a part, ponder on what I have read, and then read on. Maybe reading about not dieting is like IE - one needs to be 'mindful' of what we take in and learn to 'savor' that too?Glad to have you here too - Best wishes for you as well, KatchaIEing since March 2007>> Hi! Guest guest
Hi ! Welcome and thank you for introducing yourself! The woman who started this group before I took it over was a big fan of Thin Within. I haven't read all of Thin Within, but I know many of the principles are the same. There are people here who know it much better than I do, I'm sure you'll get lots of feedback. From what I have read, there are a lot of similarities and the biggest different is the religious aspect. I know their hunger scale is somewhat different, but there are so many hunger scales out there. I do know that the basic concepts are pretty much the same as Intuitive Eating. There are a ton of Intuitive Eating books with lots of ideas and approaches, but the basic structure is the same. Feel free to ask questions and share your experiences, this is a great group and I'm sure you'll love it. Guest guest
Hi! Thank you for the welcome! I have not finished the book yet either. I was suprised when I found this group, I had not heard of Intuitive eating before. This way of eating came to my attention first when I found the book Weigh Down. Thin Within fits me better. > > Hi ! > > Welcome and thank you for introducing yourself! > > The woman who started this group before I took it over was a big fan of Thin > Within. Guest guest
Hello everyone! I am a 20 year old girl recovering from an eating disorder and have been trying to the intuitive eating approach for about 2 months now. I would love to find a support buddy to talk to and email and just help through the ups and downs of relearning how to eat like we were made to. Let me know if you would like to be that person and I would absolutely love to talk to you
Guest guest
Welcome McKella. So glad to have you join us here. I would like to think I could write, but every time I start, I never finish. Hat's off to you for doing that! Luckily there is no 'start' or 'finish' with IE! Its always there for us whenever and however we can utilize it. BEST to you, Katcha IEing since March 2007 > > Hi, I'm new to the group, and I was told to introduce myself. I'm McKella; I'm 21 years old and I've been married for a year and a half. > I've been on and off diets since I was twelve. A counselor recommended the IE book and I read it about a year ago. I love it and I really believe it's the way out of this mess. It feels right, but I still struggling with the dieting mindset and the food police. I let myself eat what I want, but I feel guilty sometimes. Sometimes I eat emotionally, especially in the winter because I get winter blues. > A little about me: I'm about to start my last semester of college and I hope to graduate with a BS in English in the spring. I'm about halfway through my first novel and I have a few magazine articles in the mail for publishing. Other than writing, I love to read, walk, do yoga, and make art. I work with kids, and it's really interesting to watch them eat intuitively. I learn a lot from them. >
Guest guest
Hello, Wow, it sounds like you lead a life full of challenges! My ex has a 23 year old son with aspergers so I have some experience with that... tough! Good for you for surviving. The bad news is that ie is Hi! My name is Debi and I am a 45 yr old Married Mother of 2 teens. I have a very stress filled life (don't we all!?) as I am also a full-time " Caretaker " . Our Son and Daughter both have Aspergers syndrome, as does my Hubby (low level-very high functioning)and our Daughter is starting to show signs of becomming Bi-polar (common with Aspergers) I have been overweight all my life, and at 45, still weight the same and wear the same size I did in High-school... a size 1x/18. I am now having hip and shoulder problems, hormonal problems and high blood pressure due to my weight. I MUST lose at least 50lb for my health, and my sanity. I have been on EVERY diet I've ever seen or heard of since the age of 11... and it took THIS LONG to figure out that diets do not work.. you can not live that way. When I eat " whatever whenever " I start out eating mostly carbs and fat... but after a while NOTHING sounds good, even when I am actually hungry and not just blindly eating. I could REALLY use some guidance what to do at this point... do I just fix something I KNOW I like but is healthier? Grab a piece of fruit or some veggies? When nothing sounds good... I don't eat-- until I become " ill " then later start binging. HELP!
Guest guest
I often have these days, mostly after my period. I've learned to really be careful about meeting my hunger needs, otherwise I tend to gain weight, even though I'm feel like I'm eating less. My body reacts to severe hunger like famine and puts weight on. So, even though I'm not necessarily enjoying my food, I eat as soon as I'm hungry. I just eat what sounds the most appetizing to me. Usually, it's the more nutritious foods that I crave at that time. That feels really miserable, though. All those years of forcing myself to go hungry, and now here I am with moments of hunger without an appetite to actually eat. I'm getting used to it though. Good luck! Sara > > Hi!
