Hi Tracie,

That actually did cross my mind ... I wasn't quite sure what a TIA was. Also, the night before, I noticed several unusual bumps under the skin on my feet ... probably totally unrelated, but they weren't the same "bumps" like I get with the sarc granulomas ... I was wondering, initially, if they were related to the Plaquenil.

There is also something else I've been wondering about ... I have gotten these for years, but has been much worse recently ... there are times when from my chest up to my brain, I feel like I am being zapped with "lightning bolts" ... I used to blame it on stress, and that may be the case ... I take 2 xanax, and it usually stops -- when it is happening, I feel very detached or trapped (like I'm not in my body...or I'm trapped in the moment and don't know if it is just stress or if I should be asking for help -- that is when I take the xanax ... I don't know if I can talk when this is happening because I don't try ... I just take 2 xanax and wait for my body to calm down).

When this happens, it usually happens every day for about a week; then I may not have it happen again for a few weeks. It is not the same "shock" as is in my extremities due to neuropathy ... it is feels very different ... maybe it is the same and just feels different because it is happening to my brain ... I don't know ... but, I really hate it when it happens ... it's very frightening.

Anyway, back to the possible TIA's ... since I'm not in the middle of one, do I tell my family dr. on Monday? I am trying to get the pre-certification for a brain MRI my sarc dr. wants me to have ... but, that could take few more weeks. If I have had TIA's, will that show up in a brain MRI?...if not, is there another way to tell if I have had them?...CT scan, maybe?

Thank you (again ... and again ... and again) Tracie,

Joan

Joan,It sounds like you may have had a "Transient Ischemic Attack"--or slight stroke. Unfortunately, they are a part of NS. I know I wrote about TIA's and strokes previously-- but when something like that happens--get to teh ER immediately. TIA's are "mini-strokes" or precursors to a full blown stroke. Remember, with a stroke, TIA, or heart-attack-- the 1st hour is called the "Golden Hour." If you get to an ER quickly, they can administer a "clot busting" medication that is excellant at breaking up a blood clot and keeps you from having permanent damage- paralysis, loss of speech, etc.

Anyway, back to the possible TIA's ... since I'm not in the middle of one, do I tell my family dr. on Monday? YES!!! This should help to get that CT & MRI of your brain expedited. I am trying to get the pre-certification for a brain MRI my sarc dr. wants me to have ... but, that could take few more weeks. Joan, it's so important that you get these done. If I have had TIA's, will that show up in a brain MRI?...if not, is there another way to tell if I have had them?...CT scan, maybe? If it's a TIA-- "transient" is the key word here, it may not show up--because it happens and there is no residual that they can find. If it's a stroke, CVA-- then it may show up on CT and MRI.

Joan, I apologize, I'm not able to think clearly today--major breathing problems. I'm going to try to post to the group what's happening to me, but for now, all I can find is the basics.
