Hi,

It takes 8-10 weeks after your last shot for the side effects to

diminish. After 3 months she should inform her doc if her period

isn't back.

Ku

> I have a friend who was on lupron treatments prior to her myo in

June. Her last shot was in May, yet she is still (in late July)

experiencing the symptoms of menopause. (She is only 35). She thinks

her dosage for the last injection was 7.5mg. She is VERY tiny. About

5 foot 2 but probably doesn't weigh 95 lbs soaking wet. She is having

hot flashes, but the worst symptom that is affecting her surgical

recovery is sleeplessness. And she hasn't had a period for several

months.

After the last shot of Lupron, she could be experiencing the symptoms for up

to two months and perhaps even more. It needs time to get out of the body.

This is a very powerful drug and may even take longer to get out of the system,

but I would hope the side effects would start to lessen soon. Have her

contact her doctor. They haven't informed her properly about what she can

expect.

Let us know what she finds out. It'll be good for all of us to be informed.

My personal experience with Lupron so far...

I got the shot at the end of my cycle, on April 18, 2003. (it was

the last day of my period as well). Then on April 30, 2003 I got

another full fledged period. Weird. Then after about 1 month, I

started with the hot flashes and sleeplessness. I went to the doctor

around May 23rdish and told him how I'd been feeling (i got the 3

month long lupron shot i think it's 11.25mg or something?) and he put

me on an addback called Premarin (0.625mg estrogen tablets) Being on

the Premarin has helped a bit with the extremes. I still get hot

flashes, and find that if I'm upset/embarassed my body gets

reallllllllllly hot, but it's not unbearable per se.

It is now July 27, 2003. The shot officially ended on 7/18/03 I'd

assume. I went in for a checkup on 7/25/03 and the doc said the

tumor was starting to get firm once again, so I know the shot is at

least wearing off. I'm slated for laparoscopic myomectomy on 8/4/03

here in NJ. I have no idea when my period will come back, but I

think he said it usually takes a month or two?...

I'm sure someone here will know :-)

I received the Lupron Depot (11.25mg) shot on Feb 13th......

(this is the 3-month dose)....

The 12 week mark was May 8th....

I just got my period back on July 25th....23 week mark....

(11 weeks after....)....I was never a heavy bleeder with

my fibroids, but this first period has been VERY heavy!

I took the lupron to shrink my fibroids ( " 6 months " in size)

in prep for a hysterectomy....I am 40 now and had a myomectomy

10 years ago (they grew back!!)....

Unfortunately, I found out in April that I had breast cancer and

I put my hyst on hold .....had a lumpectomy and I am currently

undergoing 4 treatments of chemo followed up with 6 weeks of

radiation......because of my age, the chemo may, or may not,

throw me into temporary, or permanent, menopause.......

If this throws me into permanent menopause, I am hoping my

fibroids will shrink again (they have already grown back!) and I will

not need to go thru with the hyst.......with everything I've been

going through these past few months, I really don't want to

undergo any kind of invasive surgery if I don't need to .....

Hope this helps...

Most of you know that I have been trying to get into

the trial for compound J at TAP pharm...

they are insisting that all participants are off of

Lupron for 7 months because otherwise the Lupron may

skew the data. 7 MONTHS folks to make sure that it is

completely out of the system...Think that they know

something that we do not?
