Guest guest
Joanne, Try searching on Fludrocortisone which is the generic name for florinef. on this site: http://www.intelihealth.com/IH/ihtIH/WSIHW000/8124/8124.html?k=DrugResourceZoneF\ R408 The most serious side effects are: Headache and blurred vision caused by high blood pressure; low body potassium levels, causing cramps, weakness, and heart palpitations. Call your doctor immediately. jarsenault@... wrote: > My dad saw his neurologist today. He has been very tired and > has been " fainting " lately. Guest guest
Joanne, Accidently hit send so this is continued: Less Common Dizziness, difficulty swallowing, headache, hives, itchiness, rash, cough, vomiting, sudden weight gain, retention of sodium and water in the body. Several people have tried the Co Q10 and I have not heard good or bad about it. There is fear of some doctors that high doses may cause the body to stop manufacturing it naturally. Guest guest
I have a quick question about florinef - does it increase tremors in any MSA patients? Since starting on it they seem much worse. And what's a " normal " dose? My father is taking .1 MG (I think) twice a day, and his BP has been in the basement for the last 3-4 days (60/40 standing) I'm leery of asking the doctor to increase it because of all the " swelling " side effects I've read about, but he's so weak in the morning I'm also afraid he's heading for a fall. His legs seemed to have weakened also since starting on the florinef. Is this a side effect others have encountered? And one last question, his doctor did not want to prescribe anything to help him sleep, because he gets up about 3 times a night, but he's sleeping awful - what is a mild sleep aid I could ask for? Thanks Alice
Guest guest
Alice, I am not aware of florinef causing an increase in tremors, but each patient is different, so I guess anything is possible. The .1mg twice a day seems fairly normal. My husband Rob takes .3 mg a day, but he worked up to that over time. Be sure your father is getting lots of salt (bouillion or salt tablets) and is taking in at least 2 liters of water every day. In terms of sleeping -- is he getting up to go to the bathroom? Frequent urination at night can be caused by an increase in blood pressure when lying down, which causes the kidneys to work to remove water from the blood. This can be alleviated by sleeping with the head of the bed raised on blocks. (Just propping up the patient's head with pillows will NOT do it!)This prevents the blood pressure from spiking up and the kidneys will not work so hard. It also helps the patient feel better in the morning because they are not starting out with such a low blood pressure. If that's not the reason he's getting up, you might ask the doctor about using benedryl as a mild sleep aid, or about a prescription for trazadone, which is a mild anti-depressant with a side effect of drowsiness. Good luck, Carol & Rob > I have a quick question about florinef - does it increase tremors in any MSA > patients? Since starting on it they seem much worse. And what's a " normal " > dose? Guest guest
Alice, To my knowledge it does not increase tremor. Have you increased salt (sodium along with taking the florinef? People with MSA often try to get from 4000 to 6000 mg of sodium along with the florinef each day. When does your dad take his florinef? Best is on waking and about 7-8 hours later. Taking it late in the day may cause the BP to rise when laying down and could adversely affect sleep. Many MSA patients take an antidepressant called trazadone which helps them sleep. Guest guest
Thanks Barb, The doctor that is handling my bp just put me on Florinef last week and prescribed potassium suppliments at the same time. I am currently on a trail basis to see if this helps my bp levels stabilize. I have been having bad stomach spasms, but I did with proamatine also. So not sure if it is the disorder or meds. Maybe it will subside after an adjutment period. Since I do have parkinsom symptoms it is always hard to tell. Did Ken have any similar probs on these meds? Thanks for the info..I always check here to see if my treatment is on course. What blessings you ALL are! ..Rose
