Guest guest
I'm not a big pill taker. I prefer to eat a wide variety of veggies, meats, and fats to get my nutrients. I do supplement with a multi-vitamin each day and take calcium and/or magnesium when needed and use Half Salt for additional potassium. I will also take different supplements occasionally for specific problems, but I have more of a phobia of over-doing it with vitamins. I also just plain hate swallowing pills! ;-) Kirstie
Guest guest
i dont agree with that myself .. i agree with Dr Atkins recommendations his book on vita nutrients is excellent. of course we cant afford to take everything he says but i do try to take what pertains to any problems i might be having such as peri menopause or my bad back and joints etc.. plus i take the anti oxidents to prevent cancer and some immune boosters so i can stay healthy.. the RDA is just what you need not to die of malnutrition and in this day and age with refined foods, depleted soils and polution i think we need many more things but of course its all up to you what you choose to do .. just like i chose to eat LC i choose to supplement my diet catherine -----
Guest guest
> fwiw I don't take any vitamins. I have a hatred of the vitamin industry... > I think they are scum. Perhaps I should qualify this before someone takes offense. What I dispise are their methods. IMHO there is a place for vit suppliments, there are people with a medical need... there are times when it is appropriate. Idealy, People should be able to get everything they need from food. This is not an ideal world and most people don't. In the convienience-crazed world we live in now, a world of microwave meals, TV dinners, McPlasic food its not surprising that people are missing vital parts of their diet. Surely the answer is to eat less processed rubbish, move back to propper fresh food which - Shock Horror - Might contain *gasp* fat!, or other " deadly " things... There I would expect there would be little call for such things. The whole thing is a con - here is your conspiricy theory... Food manufacturers process everything out... pills to put it all back in. I foresee the day where we have flavoured goo for entertainment and pills for nourishment. Are we really that far away from that now as a society? My wife is frustrated (no, not because she hasn't seen me for a month) but because she is finding it very difficult to find fresh veggies where she has moved to in the US. When she does find them they are extortionatly expensive. The canned equiv is almost a quarter of the price and of course has had all its goodness leached out. Just as a matter of comparison - I loaf of bread from my supermarket is 12 pence, that is about 17 US cents. Freshly baked an hour before. A pint of milk is 27p a pint (38 US cents). With the uprising of the supermarkets in the UK and the complete demolition of small shops we are now effectivly at the mercy of whatever products Asda/Walmart, Tesco etc choose to provide. Coupled to that is the Common Agricultural Policy which is pure madness. An example is that farmers are fined for overproduction. My local farmer was only allowed to sell X pints a week even if he was capable of selling more. Any he produced over he sent straight down the drain to avoid the fine. Before you think I'm too nuts there is a precident to this... A company[0] gave out sample baby milk sachets out in various developing countries telling the mothers that it was better for their babies than their own breast milk. The mothers, wanting the best for their children trial the free samples. The samples of course are just long enough that it causes the mothers milk supply to cease. One created dependant market. Red [0] I was originally going to name the company but in the interests of being sued I decided not to.
Guest guest
I take Atkins Basic, essential oils, biotin and msm (for hair loss), a calcium, magnesium, and zinc supplement, and a cranberry pill (I used to have problems with frequent bladder infections). One thing I noticed is that when I first started Atkins I did not buy his vitamins, but took a generic multi, and oil pill. One day I found the Atkins vitamins at Walmart and they weren't that bad in price and I thought what the heck try it and see if there is a difference. It might just be me, but I felt so much better taking Atkins vs trying to match it with other pills that I continue to use the Atkins vitamins. 156/154 (opps fell off over labor day)/125 On Thu, 6 Sep 2001 10:16:46 -0700 (PDT) Kathy M writes: I take the Atkins brand Basic 3, essential oils, and MSM with glucosomine.
