Guest guest
Val, Doc has me taking Vitamin D right now to help absorb some more calcium in my system. Not sure of how it works exactly, but I'll try. As for the Armour... I'm going to try the Synthroid and see what happens. Hugs, Tigger The time has come.... help! What are your test results? So what happened to the parathyroid/calcium issue? You call 'em back and tell the assistant you want Armour instead. Val I talked to my endo's office today and the assistant had already called in a prescription for Synthroid to my pharmacy. That means I never got to talk to my doctor about Armour. Now what? Guest guest
Hi Tigger, since you have absorption problems because of this surgery, go ahead and take the Synthroid, and see how you do. If you continue to have hypoT problems, you'll know that you can actually order Armour yourself and take accordingly. Given the stress you're under, and aren't comfy in trying Armour on your own.....don't sweat it. Approach your dr and ask him/her about taking Armour later at your next appt. A dr's first choice is usually always going to be Synthroid, because they've been told 'it's better' (from the makers of synthroid) which we already know for most it's not. Some people rock along and never have a problem (or think they don't have one) and seem to do fine. Be prepared for your dr to tell you that Armour is old, outdated, and that since they have the TSH test, the Synthroid takes the guesswork out of it for them. (They don't have to think) and they feel that $inthroid is safer (complete lie). When you start having problems, and you get tired of them telling you that it could take years to get the T4 dosages right, to feel better, you will order the Armour with or without the dr. That is how most of us ended up in that same place. I went from taking armour after going to a dr who insisted that I stop Armour thyroid and go with Levoxyl, which I did. I guess I did it so I could prove to myself, one last time, that not all people do so great on something other than Armour. I was doing fine on it, but she didn't like the suppressed TSH. I finally said 'frig it' after a week, and tossed the Levoxyl and started right back on Armour after I was slipping back into the old symptoms. I could tell the difference instantly when I got back on the Armour. I don't know why it was important for me to give a T4 supplement a shot, but it was the difference between night and day between the two. I don't regret going against that dr's suggestions because she isn't hypoT, and I am. Her plan didn't work, and if I can go from 1 grain of Armour from the lowest dose of Levoxyl, and feel great, then that is proof to me. SandyE~Houston The time has come.... help!
