I think that's a great idea... I know when I have my surgery...I'm probably

not going to have any visits until I get picked up... my mom is the most

likely visitor and she will be caring for my 2 y.o. so I would want her to

have to come...I know I'll probably have tons of questions and would

appreciate the support

I think the one on one visits is a great idear....speeking from a pre-op point of view....being newly post op is going to be a big challange i am sure, and it would be nice to be able to talk to someone on a one on one basis to perhaps get any embarising(spelling) questions answered instead of having to speak in front of the group

Beth,

I’ve visited MANY people in the hospital and hopefully it’s benefitted

them in some way. I know that people on this list have tried to make sure

that every newbie has an angel, and I hope that will continue. From my

own experience, I’ve sometimes felt that people I’ve visited didn’t have

the stamina for a long visit, so I wondered how beneficial I was. In any

case, I do think this is a good practice, and that all pre-ops should really

feel free to call post-ops and to speak up if you’d like a visit. I live

very close to NWH, so that’s always pretty easy for me.

Beth,

I think that is a great idea..

Unfortunately I am unable to visit people. I live and work close to an hour

from the hospital and being a single mom I only leave my kids one night a month

(support group meeting) without supervision. I had a lovely post-op visit me

the day after my surgery, I was so out of it, I was afraid I had been rude to

her. She assured me I had not! I had a bad reaction to the morphine and was

very sick and miserable the day after surgery. I love your idea, but I think if

people are going to do this, day 3 would be the best one to visit on… Just my

experience…

Joni,

I think day 3 is the best day too. It is when you start eating, and are

switching to oral meds. I live near NWH so it's easy to visit. I have

talked to a couple of people near me and they would like to visit also,

they arent on line noone here knows them except from maybe the Thursday

groups.

AA,

Thats exactly how I feel. I visited my friend Margie everyday she was in

and there was a real improvement each day. I think day 3 is the best day

Lyssa,

Since I live near the hospital its no biggie for me. If it were an hour

Once winter is over and the roads are dry and bare again i'd be up for going

down to NWH visiting if anyone wants to join me.

I think whoever can do it now deserves a big hug as they are very special!

Lois,

I don't think its a new idea at all. Lyssa and lots of others seem to

have been making visits right along, I just didnt know about it. I wish I

was on here before my surgery. Maybe together we can figure out who and

when and make sure everyone gets a visit.

Please don't think it was my idea :) I just did a few visits on my own as I

felt the urge to do it. I think if anyone wants to try to organize something

great .. I know there are many others here that have also done their own

visits. Its a great thing.

I think a welcome wagon would be great! I know when I go to have my surgery

I would LOVE to have visits from post op people. I will be full of questions,

and then after my surgery I would love to be part of the "welcome wagon"

gang! Just my 2 cents!

Beth,

You make me laugh. LOL In the hospital I couldn't even open my

eyes,oh man was I sick. It was like sea sickness that wouldn't go away.

The nurses are the ones who finally figured out it was the morfine but

that was on the third day.

If I had only knew then what I know now.LOL After that It was ok.

When I went home I sent my kids to my moms for a MONTH.LOL So I guess I

did milk it. Your good though no laundry for 6 months. I'm gonna have

to take some lessons from you for when I have my plastic surgery.

Being a pre-op person, I think the welcome wagon visits would be very much appreciated. I personally think the 3rd day of the hospital stay would be the best of all of them. I know I would sign up and visit people as a post-op once I know what I am doing!

I think welcome wagon is a great idea too.... wonder how we could set it up.... I can only get to UMass memorial patients, and not nearly as many surgery's occur there (from this list anyway).... but still, a good idea. I think day 3 is ideal too...
