Guest guest
Hi Arnie, Now why wouldn't you want to be called Annie or Amie? lol Laurie Subject: Re: WorkshopTo: IntuitiveEating_Support Date: Wednesday, November 25, 2009, 11:45 AM Hi mj,The workshop I'm attending next week is in Kitsalano, I didn't realize they were doing the same workshops in PoCo. I just found out about this series so I missed the first two. I'm glad to hear that you've been enjoying them.ARNIE(I think I'll put my name in uppercase at the bottom of my posts. I've recently been mistaken for Annie and for Amie. It's easier to distinguish if it's uppercase.)
Guest guest
Harry, I feel the same way you do, in fact I don't buy or look at fashion mags. They try to put us all in a big bubble, no diversity. It's amazing and wonderful that we have come so far accepting different cultures and so on. But when are people going to get over being fat phobic. It's the new melinium and it's time for people to realize we come in different colors SHAPES AND SIZES!!!!!!!!!!! and it"st OK. But as long as we keep buying into the diet industry and Valarie Bertinelli and Marie Osmond and "this is what fourty looks like" I hate that one especially,we will never be ok. People keep telling me it's getting better but I don't see it in mainstream media. But what we can do is start with people like all of us and hopefully educate are children and grandchildren that beauty comes from the inside out. and maybe the next generations will get it. Thanks for listening to me rant, JudyTo: IntuitiveEating_Support Sent: Thu, November 26, 2009 11:52:51 AMSubject: RE: Re: Workshop I would never, for all the gold in fort knox, watch "biggest loser". I despise reality tv, and I've had it up to here with being shamed for being fat. That said, it doesn't surprise me to hear that past contestants who exercise as a profession keep the weight off. I know, in my own life, that it's always been easiest to lose weight & keep it off when exercise is a part of my daily routine. When I was in grad school a couple of years ago, I was carless, and I walked everywhere. The pounds simply fell off. It was totally effortless. Now I have a car, in a cold climate, and I drive everywhere. My weight is stable (thankfully, after a year of IE), but I'm not losing any weight. That's where I'm at today, and that's okay. Harry [intuitiveEating_ Support] Re: Workshop i did watch parts of biggest loser update last night & it seems to me that being on tv when losing a great deal of weight must put some people in that 5% of success category. they had updates on 40 (i think) past contestants & with the exception of one, these people were continuing to keep their weight off. i think it has a lot to do with the fact that many of them have become trainers (personal or group). back in the early 80s i lost 60 lbs on a low cal diet and with the exception of about 10 lbs, i kept it off for about 10 years. the way i did it was by teaching aerobics classes. as soon as i gave that up the weight started to creep back on & it was a rollercoaster of dieting after that. i still exercise but i think being in the spotlight back then ( & much younger) must have made me more conscious or something.any one else see the show? what did you think? Guest guest
I didn't see that particular show. I think they're keeping the weight off, in part, because they are in the spotlight. But I am very skeptical as to whether they've got "freedom" around food. I'm skeptical of their methods; I kept a lot of weight off in my twenties, but then again I was only consuming 1,000 cals a day; very unhealthy but I looked...well great according to society's standards. But now I am so much happier and I look in the mirror and think I look good; back then I thought I was ugly, fat, disgusting, and I HATED my body. I am skeptical as to whether the biggest losers have a positive view of themselves. The way they lose weight on the show is extreme and unhealthy.
