Guest guest
I noticed tiger bones is one of the ingredients. Tigers are in danger of becoming extinct in many parts of the world. Tigers are poached illegally because their parts are used in medicines. If you check, I'll bet it is illegal to sell medicines with tiger parts in your jurisdiction. Also. I wouldn't want to contribute to the extinction of such an incredible animal. Guest guest
Hi Joanne! Geoff here. Thank you for posting the ingredients from your pills. I have written to the company two times now, both inquiries remained unanswered, which makes me leery personally. If the pills help you and have no apparent ill effect, use them. Beware though, Chinese origin herbals are *notorious* throughout the medical world for adulteration, in contrast to Chinese Herbals produced in the states which are *not* so noted. Physicians are not immune from carrying nor selling adulterated items, nor are pharmacists immune from being tricked into holding adulterated drugs. Only under the most onerous circumstances would a Physician, who by license can hold scheduled narcotics on hand in their office legally, be subject to prosecution. One of the more notorious examples of this arose a few years ago when several alternative practitioners were dispensing an herbal found to have a controlled substance (cocaine) in it. Many unsuspecting patients found themselves under arrest for possession of controlled substances, I recall from the TV news at least two poor souls from Texas caught up in the mess. To be sure it was an odd circumstance. Without having a $100,000 gas chromatograph in the garage, and the skills to run it and interpret the results, there's no way for the average Joe or Jane to know if what they are taking, or eating, etc., is truly what they believe it to be. In the end it all comes down to trust and discernment. Thanks for posting the ingredients list. ly, I would be very surprised if the " Os Tigris " factually is the " inner part of Tiger bone. " More likely, if it is there at all, and if it is bone at all, it is probably the readily available and inexpensive bovine with the " ingredient " used for marketing purposes. Same with the " Plastrum Testudinis, " supposedly " tortoise shell " powder. Life experience and knowledge of the far eastern culture, market places, and pharmacology lead me to seriously doubt either of these actually being present as advertised. However, I would not be surprised to find bone meal and talc. As to Tortoise shell or Tiger bone being of any pharmacological benefit were they to actually be used, that is a different issue altogether. People are usually amazed at the diversity of things which have pharmacological impact. Who would think eating charcoal would be beneficial, yet in certain ways it is. What about snake venom? Everyone knows that is poisonous, but it is also medicinal. I have learned that it is better to be surprised than arrogant. Learning is a never-ending process. (Not that I personally know of any pharmaceutical uses for either Tiger bone nor Tortoise shell, but I do know of many uses for the other two examples and thus would not be shocked if the first two were found to have some effect.) The other items you posted are worth seeking translation into their botanical names, then researching the activities and contraindications of each. Does your package give any indications of " amounts? " I'm not suggesting I would believe them, but it may be interesting to see what they are and their supposed ratios, if they are present. Thanks for all the work posting that stuff. You may find it easier just to use your e-mail software, called a " client " to post to and read the list versus using groups. Guest guest
Thank you for all the input Geoff. If you will read my last post... " Same pills without the bones " ... you will see that I found a US company that sells a very similar formula made with Chinese herbs in the USA, but without tiger bones or tortoise shell I have already sent in an order to this company. You've gotta trust someone, after all Joanne --------------------------------------------------------- From: " Geoff " <geoff@8...> Date: Wed Jan 8, 2003 3:22 pm Subject: re: Fong Ton Pill Ingredients Hi Joanne! Guest guest
About the benefits of the herbs... Please refer to the latest post from me on 1/08 ... " Same Pills without the bones " . The company I mentioned makes these without endangering tigers. Listed in the post are all the benefits of the herbal preparation. I have been taking the pills for about ten days and believe me that I haven't felt as good as I do now for about a year. I have so much energy, clarity of mind, much less stiffness, hardly any pain, and my new enthusiasm for life is amazing me! I don't need NSAIDS, or pain pills to sleep at night anymore. It may be that the AP is beginning to work...that I'm not herxing anymore. I have been on the therapy for about three months. Whatever the reason for my healing...antibiotics, or herbal medicine, or both...I am very happy to be feeling almost like I did before the RA hit me in June 2002. ------------------------------------------------ From: seaintuit@a... Guest guest
Joanne, Thanks for the info on the Fong Ton stuff. I get the digest so my notes are sometimes out-of-synch with the individual e-mails. For example: I get a digest, ask a question about it, and when the next digest comes out find that there was already an answer posted before I ever asked my question, but there were not enough e-mails logged yet to generate a new digest, thus my question ends up posting in the digest and going out via individual e-mails from the list AFTER the answer! One of those little quirks of the Internet and trying to manage everything.
