LOL j/k Yes, we have all found that Dr R (bless is energetic heart) is becoming very busy as people spread the word. So, unless you feel it in your heart that you will be approved with no problems, it might be in your best interest to take the bull by the horns so to speak and work with your insurance company. If you've filled out your information on-line, they will get things together and fax them to your insurance company, but if you wish, you can email Debbie and request that a copy be sent to you so you can fax them another copy (later) and snail mail it return receipt to a specified person who handles pre approvals. But take your time, relax and read all the materials in the patient handbook first. Start working on your letters while you wait for the insurance company to get back with you. Yes, I am sure that all of us would love to have this surgery and start a new life, but hey, we've all been overweight for years, what does a week or two or three mean in the scheme of life? Take the time to get your ducks in a row, if it is meant to be, it will happen. And if the insurance company turns you down, then there are many sources available to help you appeal. I hope I did not sound impatient, but being new to the process, I was not sure how long it should take to receive a response. In the meanwhile, there are plenty of other steps in the process to work out, for one, I need to get a new PCP. My current PCP probably weighs 98 lbs soaking wet, and she has no idea or understanding what it means to try to fight obesity and refuses to help me an any way other than to suggest Weight Watchers. Nobody loses weight better than us. We do it so well, we've made practically a career out of it. LOL And yes, if you feel your current PCP won't support you, then by all means change. And when you talk to your insurance company you might stress to them that the surgery is done by laparascope, which means less time in the hospital. Best of luck to you and please feel free to voice any questions or concerns that you might have. We are all chock full of ideas and have gone through quite a bit---from preop to post op. I had the very same dilemma! I ended up going to my mother's physician and found a friend for life! He was amazingly supportive of weight loss surgery and very interested in MGB. I am also looking on the American Bariatric Society Listing to see who they have listed.
