Hello my name is . I am 42 years old and have been struggling with my

weight for most of my life. I was a chubby kid, and remember binging before I

was a teenager. As an adult, I have been a normal weight for most of my life,

but always tried to be thinner. I found this group, by going on the intuitive

eating website. I found out about the non-diet approach last year. I read

some books and then found a website that I really liked. I ended up gained

twenty five pounds following the principles on that site, and got freaked out

and went back to WW. that was about six months ago, and I lost about twenty of

those pounds. I originally wanted to lose another ten or fifteen pounds from

where I am now, but recently started seeing that that was excessive.

About five years ago I went on weight watchers and lost twenty five pounds, and

kept that off for almost three years. I was in the best shape of my life. I

worked out six days a week for two hours some days. I was really happy with

the way I looked, but I still felt like something was missing. I met my

husband three years ago, and we married six months later. I gained all of the

weight back, and have been trying to get it back off for the past two years. I

have tried all kinds of diets and programs. I have spent tons of money and am

embarrassed by my obsessions. Last year I finally removed all my beautiful

small size clothes from my closet where they were tormenting me every day. I

packed them up, but did not get rid of them. a few weeks ago, I finally came

to accept that I will most likely never be a size four, or even a six again, and

know that I need to get rid of these clothes, but I can't bring myself to do it

yet.

My marriage is basically happy, we have a lot of issues regarding our two kids,

we both have teenage boys that live with us full time. Mine is 15 and his is

17. We have different parenting styles and it is very difficult at times. We

were both divorced from our first marriages for over ten years, when we met, so

just being married again was quite a challenge for two people who were single

that long. .

I stopped exercising obsessively about a year ago, and now do Pilates three

times a week, and try to do cardio at least two days a week. I really love

Pilates. I am excited about becoming an intuitive eater, and am hoping to

learn a lot from all of you.

Welcome . I think you will find that you can 're-gain' your INternal eating

signals and dump those EXternal dictates that have had you struggling far too

long with issues imposed upon you.

Post a comment (whines are allowed), ask a question or throw out a topic that

interests you. What you can gain here is pleasant sharing of how others have 1)

been 'there' too, 2) what they have tried/are doing and 3) what has helped them

the most. Most of all be gentle with yourself and gift yourself time for this

process. I bet any member here that has been here longer than a month or so will

tell you that they are glad they joined and stuck around too.

Thanks Katcha, I will do as you suggest. The gentle part will be the hardest.

Dieting requires that we buy into these premises - 1) we are flawed & 2) we

can't trust ourselves - that only 'experts' can guide us. How an expert can know

when I am hungry let alone how much my body will be satisfied with is beyond me!

Its rather like the daffy-intion of consultant that was told to me. There are

two types of consultants, if asked what time it is one will look at YOUR watch

and tell you what it says and the other one will find the real time and tell you

that. Either way, the point is that YOU had the information to begin with so why

PAY someone to tell you? The diet industry is a multi billion dollar

'consultant'. Its time for it to suffer a 'depression' ;-) :) :)
