I was browsing the web and came across the MGB which I think might be my calling. I am 32 yrs old married with no kids. I have tried several diets which yes I did lose weight but then later gained it all back and more. I am now up to 338 and slowly rising. My friend at work has just started weightwatchers and wants me to go with her. You know, i have done it before. What she does not understand is that yes she has 40 lbs to lose and i probably have 140. You know, i can do good for a while but I do not have the willpower to continue after awhile. I have tried, Lord know that I have tried. I have Pacificare Insurance and they do state if it is medically necessary they will cover the surgery. Next week I am going to call them to see what my policy states and what would be covered if I have the surgery. I am ready to make a change and a committment. I have read several of your emails which are all inspiring and i can relate to the embarrising moments too. I hope I get good information from my insurance carrier. Thanks for all being there. It is a great feeling to know that there are people in this world who have the same feelings and thoughts that you have and are able to share how to deal with different situations. You know, I get to feeling like Im the only one having the " fat problems " in the world. I guess it is because all I work with are women that are thin and fit. Thank you for listening. I know my insurance is not going to cover me because I have the " EXCLUSION " that everyone dreads. I am planning on having this surgery ASAP. I was wondering what to do first? I was wondering about the 10 contacts??? What do you do??? I mean do you call people or write or e-mail them... and then what do you have to do??? Print the conversations down? How do you show Dr. R the 10 contacts?? A confused girl is what we have here?? I plan on completing one thing at a time... The money will be the last thing since I will be self pay probably I want to have everything ready when I figure out the moola part of it.. Anyone else out there??? For my 10 contacts I contacted them via instant message and then printed the conversation. That way the doctor could see what kinds of things we discussed and what kind of questions were asked and answered. I tried to spread them out over several days so the questions would not seem so monotonous to me and I would not forget to ask any thing. She is new to the medical center I go to and she told me she knows Dr. R real well. That has me real excited. I plan to give her a copy of the manual but I don't know if she will need it. I have my first appointment with Dr. R on the 25th of March. I'm going forward like it is really going to happen for me. I will have my patient info sent in by the 17th of March. I want this more than I have ever wanted anything, except maybe a baby. I'm 46 yo and I'm too old for babies, but I'm not too old to take care of myself. I met a man 4 years ago and he has three really great kids so I want to be around for grandbabies. He and I are both going to do this. Now for you. how can I help? Where do you live? My job (or at least the people I have told) are very supportive, but they have not experienced what we have. I don't think that someone can completely understand until they have walked a mile in my shoes. We, on this list, have all walked a mile in each other shoes. Just knowing that there are people out their thinking of me is a help. I live in Kansas City and will be leaving here on the 23rd. My parents and I are going to make a little vacation out of the first part and they will be there for me during the procedure on the 27th. I really don't know what I need, but everything is appreciated. Thank you for answering my e-mail and you are more than welcome to call while I am in the hospital or even come and visit. I plan on self-pay, as I am sure my insurance (pacificare of Colorado) will not pay. I have obtained my medical records, and have a psych appt. on 03-22-00. I am working on my patient letter and awaiting my letter of support from my PCP (which she is extremely supportive and very excited). I have made a few contacts and I just print the e-mails from post-op's, who are willing. I am getting there, but am tired of waiting already. My patient info has been sent in and I guess I just finish up the steps and send those in to. I'm sorry this is not much help, just what I am doing to complete the process. I want to be done, so I too can schedule a surgery date!!! I found that obtaining my medical records first was most helpful in completing the patient info form and writing my letter.
