Guest guest
A few weeks ago I started noticing that when I was eating, toward the end of the meal, the food seemed to not want to go down my throat. I didnt have any pain and I could still eat and drink. I attributed this to anxiety. So the problem continued. On days when I overate or ate something with a high fat content or something spicy, I would have problems getting food down and horrible burping! (I normally burp alot anyway, but i'm telling you this was just like there was a thunderstorm going on in my upper GI system!) So I started researching on the internet and discovered that I may have a few things going on. It is likely due to my history that I have some sort of disorder in my esophagus that stems from acid reflux. Anyway, one of the first things web md says to avoid if you have this problem is COFFEE! Yikes! So I stopped drinking coffee 5 days ago. I miss it especially in the morning but I really had only 1 bad day of withdrawal from it. And the really cool thing that I'm starting to notice is that I'm not getting that ravenous hunger in the afternoon that I used to. I do believe coffee (caffeine) had alot to do with my bingeing. What a joy to discover this! As far as my swallowing problem, I went to the GI doctor today and they scheduled me for that endoscope test where they knock you out and put the scope down into your stomach to see what's going on. Not real thrilled about doing it but I am feeling pretty calm about it because I associate this test with SELF-CARE. Yes, I'm learning to take care of my self - in the right way! YAY! And yes, I have noticed how symbolic this problem is. I do believe my body has told me it will not participate in any more STUFFING behavoir!
