Guest guest
I am sorry to hear about that Mikki. Although I do understand what you are through too well. I have not only had Thyroid issues but also along with blood pressure, cholestal, diabetic, and several others. My doctor even had asked me if I am on diet. I told her no and as she had noticed my health begun to improved even though my weights has not gone down. Plus sometimes a foods are not enough for health issues which I add some package. What it call " Diabetic Health Pack " I have seen there other for regular pack for non-diabetic which you might want to try. Taking medicines usual lose something in our bodies that all more reason why there vitinman, multi-vitnmans and such as that help to keep main while taking medicines from doctor. That's how I have had managed shocked hell out of my doctor. LOL. Think positive Mikki. Guest guest
So sorry to hear that Mikki. It must be frightening as well as upsetting too. I know you have done about everything you can to get IE into your life this last year. I also wonder if stress couldn't be playing as big a role as eating? If I remember correctly, you are not only mega busy at home, but at work as well as trying to finish up an education program too? That would 'pack' it on for me! Take care and do whatever you can and feel is needed for your health. Ehugs, Katcha IEing since March 2007 > > I get my lab work checked quarterly to manage my thyroid medication, and > this time it is BAD news ... for the first time ever, my kidney function > (creatinine and GFR) are outside normal limits, AND 2 of the 3 liver > function tests are high, also for the first time ever. Guest guest
Hi Mikki: Big hugs to you. I'm so sorry. One thing sort of stuck out in your post. I dont know you or your history but in my opinion, a gain of 12 pounds in 1 year is not that much. And I'm certainly not a medical professional but I question whether a weight gain of 12 pounds could impact your bloodwork result in such a negative way. Could it be more of an issue of other things like Katcha mentioned - stress that have played a role in this? I think you are very wise to begin paying attention to your food intake and seeing where you can help your body become healthier. That sounds like a " healthy " way of approaching it. Hang in there! Guest guest
Hi Mikki I am sorry to hear that your lab tests are not as you'd hoped. I don't know what your relationships with diets/ food journals are but if you feel that IE is the right eating plan for you, there are other ways you could try to improve your health. Perhaps if you think unconscious eating is a problem, see an IE friendly nutritionist or take an IE/mindful eating class (hospitals, community centers, and health clinics often have something). Stress can be detrimental as well- and you could try anything from making sure to set a few minutes aside for meditation, take a yoga class, or see a therapist. And then there are potential things to add (instead of just trying to eat less) which could help like scheduling walks with friends, or taking an exercise class or adding a handful of walnuts to your salad or a couple of spoonfuls of flax seeds to your cereal to improve your cholesterol ratios. If you know dieting is the wrong approach, and you know you will rebel, I would definitely try other things first. Best of luck ~ > > > > > > > > I get my lab work checked quarterly to manage my thyroid medication, and > > this time it is BAD news ... for the first time ever, my kidney function > > (creatinine and GFR) are outside normal limits, AND 2 of the 3 liver > > function tests are high, also for the first time ever. Guest guest
>you are not only mega busy at home, but at work as well as trying to finish up an education program too? That would 'pack' it on for me! Hi Katcha, yep that's me ... full time job, 4 kids including twin boys, 4000 sq ft house, and trying to work on a PhD! The sad thing is that I can't very well give up my job, husband, or kids LOL - and the PhD is the one thing I do that is ME - I am happy when I get to work on it, the stressful part is trying to carve out time to get to it!!! On one hand it hasn't been a huge financial investment since my job pays the tuition and fees, but it's been a sacrifice for my family to get me this far so I'd like to finish... I'm really, really torn about it sometimes because of my health - for instance my blood pressure was 170/100 last night!!! that's really bad!!!! I took an extra blood pressure pill and it helped for a while but it feels high again today (I take 20mg lisinopril in the mornings), even though I've been trying to take lots of relaxing breaths and it's been a pretty easy day at work. I'm sure focusing on getting back in shape would help the BP a lot (my aerobic fitness is very poor right now), but I just haven't been able to do both So I just don't know..... Guest guest
Hi Deb ... actually, I haven't gained any weight since the last time I had labs done, come to think of it. Obviously 200 lbs is not a healthy weight for someone with blood pressure and cholesterol issues, but it's not a sudden gain... I've been taking to some nurses I know and one of them mentioned that since I was getting over a cold when I had my blood drawn I might still have had a lot of cough medicine and sudafed in my system, and dehydration could account for a temporary bump - so to get them done again before I panic. I see my doctor on Monday so will probably get repeat testing. Even so, it's a huge wake-up call for me - I don't want to live that close the the " danger zone " of my health, ya know? thanks, Mikki Hi Mikki:Big hugs to you. Guest guest
I have to agree with this. I also question whether weighing more than the BMI dictates is really unhealthy in and of itself. There's a great book called THE DIET MYTH by Campos that offers a compelling case, based on the research, against this weight prejudice. It helped me a lot in my IE journey to read this. It really helped me to not blame my weight on everyting.
