My son is eight, and has been SCD for about three months now, with some

terrific changes and great success, we feel. What has mystified us is that ever

since starting this diet he's been flooding a pull-up nearly every night (he's

never slept without one, never been completely dry), which we assumed was a

temporary reaction to the changes in his body chemistry. I've also been reading

this very useful thread about supplementing with magnesium and have been using

Oz Water magnesium which we thought, for a few weeks, anyway, was helping.

Now even giving him a quarter teaspoon right before bed, and right when he

wakes up (so he's getting it on an empty stomach, separate from calcium by at

least a few hours), he's back to having urine accidents during the day and

pull-up

flooding at night. I've tried increasing the dosage and he's had some bad

diarrhea. I've also tried the electrolyte forumula (water with baking soda nad

salt) which someone mentioned on here about a week ago. I think that might

have helped, for a few hours at least, but I'm not really sure why and what that

might doing. Would somebody mind going over what we might be doing wrong

with the magnesium supplementation? We're also giving him (legal) Brainchild

Nutritionals, so he's getting more magnesium and calcium there. Thank you thank

you.

Both of my boys have nighttime enuresis and daytime (if they fall

asleep).

I just copied this from a website.

" Several cases of bed-wetting (among children and adults) were

relieved in a matter of days when supplements of certain

nutrients were supplied. Among these were magnesium, vitamin

B2, and pantothenic acid. "

I am also tired of changing everything on the bed and we have

already been to a urologist (with no real suggestions except

medication). I am considering trying the B2 and pantothenic

acid, but first I will search more to see if any sites have more info

on this topic.

Cammie -

I know how frustrating it can be to go through this. I don't know if

playing around with the magnesium some more will help you or not, but

I have found that it is a little tricky to get the amounts correct.

The only thing I can say is that I give Zachary his full dose of

magnesium first thing in the morning. If I give it later in the day,

it seems like he doesn't have enough time to absorb it and he has an

accident. Don't know if this is true for other kids or not. Also,

when I have tried increasing the dose, he started having accidents

again. I have read that too much magnesium can cause the same side

effects as too little.

After we got the bedwetting resolved with the magnesium, I noticed

Zachary would always have an accident when I gave him an epsom bath.

It took me a while to make that connection and I thought the

magnesium wasn't working anymore.

When we first started supplementing with magnesium, I withheld

calcium supplementation because calcium greatly affects magnesium

absorption. It made it easier for me to figure out how much

magnesium I needed to give. Then I added back the calcium and tweaked

things.

Good luck. I hope you get it worked out soon, whatever the solution.
