chana dhal

This is a round split yellow lentil, similar in appearance to the

smaller moong dhal and the larger yellow split pea, which can

be used as a substitute. It is used as a binding agent in some

dishes and is widely available from Indian stores.

This was the definition I could find online. If this is what you are

wanting to know about, then yes, it should be fine since lentils

are okay.

The trick is that I saw a lot of different recipes that used this term

differently. Beans are sort of tricky since some are allowed and

others are not. I would make sure that these yellow lentils are

truly chana dhal before you purchase them.

Also, remember that beans and lentils are not recommended

until about 6 months into the diet at which point there should be

significant healing and relief of symptoms.

I used to eat chana dhal (tons of indian stores here in CA) due to it

having low glycmic index (my blood sugar would only go up a few

points eating these), but I did a search on the internet and some say

it comes from a chickpea family, some say it is a type of lentil, so

I am not sure what the deal is. I guess I should stay away to be on

the safe side, but I need to gain some weight so I am looking for

good low glycmic high carb food...

From SCDinfo:

I searched about 25 sites on this item. Seems they are more a bean,

and have starch. So they are not ok on the scd diet. Plus garbanzo

beans are definitely out of the scd diet.
