Guest guest
I just got back from a week in Virgina at a lovely cabin and I wanted to share some of my successes. I noticed that I've made some progress on my Intuitive Eating path which I've been on for over a year now. On 9+ hour drive to Virginia from Buffalo, our first stop was Mc's. We usually don't go there very often so we usually get at least a couple of sandwiches and med/large fries. We were standing in line at McDs and my fiance asked me what I was getting. I completely surprised myself when I said a Fish Fillet and a small fry. I don't think I've gotten a small fry since I was a kid. I saw my poor fiance deflate when I told him what I was having and he realized that he should probably have a small amount of food too (he's always been skinny). It was so funny to see him deflate though McDs is a real party for him. On vacation I ate reasonably well, but definitely too much sometimes so I won't share much on that, but I did have one remarkable experience which I had read about but couldn't imagine actually happening to me. We had bought some bags of BBq chips and some Bison Onion dip to take with us and we had some in the fridge at the cabin. On Thursday morning, I wanted some and sat down at our dining room table with the chips and dip. I started to eat them and they were very good. I then started thinking of how sometimes when I've eaten chips at home, I've gone from feeling good to feeling very lousy in a very short time and I realized that I didn't want to feel that way so I stopped eating the chips. I was amazed by that since I had read about that happening but couldn't imagine that actually happening to me. On the way home we were at a gas station/stop named Sheetz. I saw some doughnuts and thought they would be nice for the trip home so I bought 4 of them. I ate one and it was ok, but then I told my fiance that he could have the rest of them. He ate two, we have the last one in the fridge which we will be throwing out. Last but not least. We bought a lot of snacks both before and while we were there. My fiance bought most of them and we didn't really eat many of them. That was a success in itself but I think the biggest thing was after I got home and saw those bags (about 5 bags) and thought to myself that we had enough snacks to last a year and how in the world would we ever eat all of them before they went bad. It was such a good feeling to think that and to see that I'm starting to think like an Intuitive Eater. I really feel that the eating disorder is starting to fade and normalcy around food is slowly coming. I know I have a ways to go but just seeing these successes is so inspirational. Guest guest
Bravo and congrats on this great accomplishment on your part. Yes, its amazing and wonderful at the same time to find that you can make good (for yourself) decisions in regard to food, especially 'fun' food! I know it was an eyebrow lifter for myself when I realized that even a few handfuls of plain old potato chips was overload for me and I didn't have any interest in the rest. I still have some issues about being able to toss out food, but I can say that I have done that where in the past I would NOT have. Progress is fabulous! Kudos to you Sharon!! ehugs, Katcha IEing since March 2007 > > I just got back from a week in Virgina at a lovely cabin and I wanted to share some of my successes.
