Guest guest
Hi all, We've been scd for 22 weeks now and as of about 7 weeks ago we had very nice formed poop.Since last Friday my son has started with very runny stools again. This is confusing me.He hasn't changed anything he is eating. He may of had a few more pears than he usually does, but I've cut them back a few days ago and no change. When his poop was formed it was dark yellow in color, now it has went to many shades of yellow, green, and now dark brown. If anyone has experienced this or knows what I should do to help this situation, please comment. We are using enzymes. He used to not be able to tolerate very much at all of the enzymes as they caused constipation, but since this episode,I've been giving him a full dose and is still not helping.Thanks. Guest guest
DeAnn, What your son may be having is a type of regression that is common among the GI/SCD community. It is called:the 3 month flare. The following tips help overcome the 3 month flare. *Tests and treatment for clostridia. *Returning to the intro diet. *Mashing up the foods in the blender before eating. I am glad that Terri mentioned B 12. Elaine has been recommending B12 shots before the DAN drs found out about them. I hope your son gets better. Mimi I will copy below a post from about the 3 month flare. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SCD is predicated on the idea that we are taking in food (carbs) that we can't break down and absorb, and that this nutrition is staying in our guts, feeding bacterial overgrowth, and as a result, damaging our guts further. If the diet is only working in a limited way, and the individual doesn't have something like C. Diff, then it is sometimes the case that there is so much inflammation in the gut that almost nothing is being digested and absorbed, whether carbs or otherwise. In that case, before the diet can help, it may be necessary to use prednisone to knock down the inflammation enough for you to start absorbing anything. Prednisone isn't the most ideal drug, but if it helps you get to the point where you can begin to heal on the diet then you shouldn't hesitate to speak to your doctor. The ideal is always to not have to use drugs, but we have to be wise about it and use them when they're called for. But - before you do that, there are some things that you can try first. You might not be tolerating the yogurt well yet. Try dripping it according to the cream cheese recipe on page 134 of BTVC - I found that I tolerated dripped yogurt much better in the beginning. Failing that, you could try goat milk yogurt in case you are sensitive to cow milk. If you are eating the chicken soup, try eating just the broth without the carrots - not everyone tolerates them early on. Some people actually have trouble with the soup itself, but try taking out the carrots first. If you aren't eating the soup, then you SHOULD try it. It has natural anti-inflammatory properties, and can also help to balance your gut chemistry, keep you hydrated, and get protein and good minerals into your system. You can also try the electrolye drink (http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.org/faq/electrolytedrink.html). I found it was a big help in the beginning. It doesn't taste great but you can add a splash of juice to give it a better flavour. It would also help if you told us what you are eating, and what meds you are on right now. We often say that you didn't get sick over night and it will take some time for you to heal. If you're not keeping a food journal, it's a good idea (http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.org/faq/foodjournal.html) Best, > We've been scd for 22 weeks now and as of about 7 weeks ago we had > very nice formed poop.Since last Friday my son has started with very > runny stools again.T
