How cute! This made me blubber again though. One of my first rescues died recently (of a heart condition) , it was Carrah's boy, and I did pretty good being stoic about what a good life he'd led, etc. Well, I have several nests of birds around here and one that raised several months ago, a wren, has stayed here and was building his own nest in a birdhouse on the patio. He's like my own little baby and he isn't at all afraid of me. He flits back and forth directly over my head, getting his house ready for his new friend. I go out several times a day to visit with him. Well, I'm a dumbass. I did not even think at all and I turned the ceiling fan on. Now, the ceiling fan is over the hot tub and about 5 feet from the birdhouses but he flew into it and it broke his little neck. I cried for hours yesterday. Ronnie came home, running to the back to see why I was bawling and I know he tried to be understanding but his basic feeling was "It's a damn bird. Get over it." I think because of the dog dying so recently and my not having any reaction, this just piled on top of me and I lost it. I still get weepy thinking about it. The little female bird went to every single birdhouse last night (I have quite a few) looking for him. Then she sat on the fence and called him. This mornng she was singing the saddest song! There aren't any other birds under the patio but I amost had a stroke this morning when Ronnie wanted to turn the fan on! It's going to be a long hot summer without that fan.

OK I know, it's a bird. Geez. What the hell is wrong with me?

Nothing wrong with crying over these things.....We love and get attached to them, and when something happens, we cry....Actually, crying is a good thing, as it gives us relief from something that has saddened us.....Luv ya Cuz

Christy,

You're having normal feelings. We had a guest bulldog from Sat afternoon until today, & I miss her. Even knowing she's going to a great home, & I'll see her again - I miss her.

You're talking about Brutus, aren't you? I never can remember his new name. You gave me a picture of him & it's with my other family pics.

Birds: Well, I check the little nest on our deck at least once a day to see if the babies are still there. I can't see them good, but I need to know there's a little head in there, or that the mother bird is taking food into the nest. I know checks so if the babies fall when they start to fly, he can pick them up. We don't have birdhouses because we don't want to attract birds - just in case our dogs should decide to chase them, but this girl just built a nest anyway.

And there's the mother squirrel in our back yard. watched her build her nest high in a tree. We've not seen babies, but mama sometimes runs across our storage building in such a way that we can tell she's nursing babies. I really want to see the babies, & if something happened to them I'd feel like it was one of my pets.

So, you see, if there's something wrong with you, then & I are totally crazy. If we are, then it's a good crazy & you're welcome to join us.

Go ahead & cry.

Hugs,

You have Brutus in the picture but he died a while back. Tyson is the one who just died recently... he was the one with terrible separation anxiety. He ate through a steel door one time and escaped. house-sat for them for a week last summer and Tyson jumped out the window (it was closed at the time) when she left to bring the cat inside! Carrah and Mike were so good to him, they alternated classes and work so someone could always be with him. They even met somewhere and swapped him out in the car when they were "in passing!" They still have Mattie but they are heartbroken over losing Ty. Carrah's at UGA so she had the vet squad there working on him and they were able to give him a few more months with his family before it was time to let him go. He was such a character and I'm gonna miss him.

You're right--it's not the bird, it's the dog. When something like that happens to me I find myself bursting into tears over the dumbest things. Not that the bird thing is dumb, it's sad, but I just know that without the dog thing it wouldn't have been such a big deal.

Ahh--a squirrel, LOL--our woods is so full of the buggers you practically trip over them. Right now there's a lot of mating ritual going on , LOL--geez they get loud.

I like squirrels.

Birds I like to look at from a distance--they freak me out up close--beady little eyes, pointy little beaks and bugs, LOL.

I was attacked by a blue jay when I was a kid so maybe that's my problem with them.

Denny's the same way, but then the chickens used to chase him when he was little, so that's probably his excuse, LOL. He won't let me have a few chickens for the eggs, so we either get them from Corin's boss or the local organice, free-range place.
