Guest guest
There is no neeed to adjust calories with a ratio drop unless indicated by other reasons. I aim to keep Leah's weight between the 25-50% for her age and so adjust cals every now and then based on that. Like your experience with Shan, we have been reducing the ratio also due to excess ketosis...it's like the body is dictating the wean. Leah is now at 1.8/1 and still in ketosis. We are doing only SCDiet legal foods now...and looking at introducing yoghurt soon. >After 15 months on the diet we are having the problem of too high ketones. >We are having to reduce by .2 every 1-2 weeks. Guest guest
Rhonda, It can only be done by trial and error. Add some calories and see what happens to weight and height and seizures. Guest guest
Thanks for all the input on whether to lower the ratio or not. I feel more at ease about staying right where we are in calories for now. Rhonda Rhonda..... I did increase calories as I lowered Katera's ratio but I feel now that was a mistake. She gained too much weight and we got into seizure trouble about that point. Of course, I don't exactly know what the direct cause for the breakthroughs was, but the weight gain didn't help. She was already at the 50th percentile for weight. An increase in carbs will seem to make them hungrier..... but I would not increase calories if I were you..... unless she has grown a lot, or is losing weight. Patti lowering ratio After 15 months on the diet we are having the problem of too high ketones. We are having to reduce by .2 every 1-2 weeks. We will begin Shan at a 2:1 ratio tomorrow. Our question is do we need to adjust calories as we get lower. We are not having problems with increased hunger. I'm very surprised that Shan is making ketones so easily. Two months ago we couldn't go below 2.8 and had to at one point increase back up to 3. Is there anything else that we should be looking at such as growth and a need for calorie increase?
