Guest guest
Hi Carol, I too have a 5yr old ASD and a 2yr old NT! I feel for you, but hard as it's now, it will get better. It sounds like you are having a strong die-off reaction. Was he very much into carbs before you started SCD? Sounds like you have strong bug population in his gut. Have you tried epsom salt baths? They help calm them down since they are literally full of toxins now that the bad bugs are dying... Some other parents give activated charcoal, although I never tried it. I would start slowly with the nut yoghurt. You want the " good bugs " to help you fight. Slowly meaning maybe a 1/2 a teaspoon everyother day for a week and then increase again. Perhaps you added the probiotics too quickly and/or too many. I think yoghurt is a milder way to get the probiotics in our kids. How is he eating? and his bowels? continue to introduce cooked veggies, meats and oils to make sure he's not irritable because he's hungry! My can become REALLY irritable if she's hungry. Offer legal food at regular intervals and lots to drink. Don't be discouraged, the fact he's reacting is telling you there are considerable changes going on in his body, so you're on the right track! What fruits are you giving? I tend for the pears, the ripe bananas and the avocados since the applesauce makes my little one a bit giddy. You are the sleuth, if you suspect something take it away for a few days and then reintroduce. each kid is different and you are the resident expert on yours! Good luck, lots of courage, and let us know how he moves along. (from Barcelona), mom to 5ASD and 2NT gut issues SCD since nov
Guest guest
I think there are many up's and down's with SCD but you should see some improvements. How about his stools? Are they better or worse? At the 2nd or 3rd month there can be a relapse even when the diet is carefully followed. See BTVC page 52. If you tell us exactly what he is eating, and all of his supplements that would be helpful. Also, are all of his supplements legal? We use Nature's Life Milk-Free Acidophilus and not Custom Probiotics and my daughter does fine with that. They do urinate much more in the beginning as well. This is normal. He may just be in another die-off period or at that 3 month set-back. Guest guest
Carol, You said: <<giving him the recommended probiotics (from Harry) really seemed to affect him negatively>> Again..... I need to know, regarding the Custom Probiotics..... Did you use a probiotic blend (as recommended by Harry?) ..... or did you use the SCD legal acidophilus only that we recommend? Guest guest
If it is die-off, you can consider giving epsom salts to help with detox and calming. It is cheap and easy to give a bath and most people see results right away. www.enzymestuff.com/epsomsalts.htm .
