Guest guest
Hi ! It's a bit hard to say the exact effect my " uterine reduction surgery " (myo) has had on improving my upper GI tract symptoms. But, I'm not a typical post-myo patient, by any means, because I have so many concurrent medical conditions going on. Sometimes it's hard to figure out what's what-- (and what's CAUSING what). However, at the moment, I have TOTAL relief by taking the prescription drug Prevacid, once daily. I've tried many other antacids and acid blockers, but nothing is as reliable in symptom relief--for me. I haven't been OFF the Prevacid since the day I returned from the hospital. Good thing, 'cause I was taking ibuprofen for about FOUR weeks post-op! One of my ongoing medical condition involves the overproduction of cells in the bone marrow-- which also means I have high histamine levels. And not just the ones that contribute to seasonal allergies (for which I ALSO take an antihistamine.) And THAT'S nothing to sneeze at! (In the lining of the stomach there is yet another type of histamine (H-2), that can cause gastro problems, when elevated.) Furthermore, I have an enlarged spleen, related to the bone marrow condition (in addition to the hiatal hernia) and the enlarged spleen puts pressure on the stomach. I take the Prevacid daily, simply because I take aspirin daily, and it protects against the corrosive effect of NSAIDS. And Prevacid works for me! **************** Which reminds me..... Hey, last night I heard 81-year old comedian Rodney Dangerfield interviewed on TV. He was talking about his recovery from brain surgery last month. During the course of the interview, he happened to mention that he found a particular brand of bottled water that he thought was the best he had ever tasted. He contacted the company that bottled the water, and made a deal-- he would mention their water every opportunity he had, if they would send him FREE bottles of water--- for the rest of his life! And they agreed! The King of " No Respect " " got some respect--AND some free bottled water! Hmmmmm... thinkin' maybe I could strike a similar deal with the Prevacid people? Have them send me Prevacid for the rest of my life, if I continue to sing the praises of the pink capsule (l'il pink capsule?!?!)? LOL! But, as Dangerfield pointed out, he was 80 years old at the time the offer was made, and perhaps the bottled water people felt, well-- they might not have to keep sending it too much longer--especially if he continues to have brain surgery, heart surgery..... ;-) I guess at MY age, the drug company might feel sending a lifetime supply of Prevacid might not be too cost effective, now matter how much free publicity I gave them! -Roma PS. You really can't go wrong by going to your GP and discussing this. A trial of one of the leading meds might alleviate all your symptoms, and confirm the suspected diagnosis. > Dear Roma, M.D., > > Thank you for all the informaiton on the hiatal hernia.
