Guest guest
Bonnie, thanks for this. It's been very quiet at my desk today so I've been reading a few things and just had a little " a-ha " moment! I've never considered myself to be a binge eater. I have never had the stereotypical moment where you start eating and you can't stop. My issue has always been eating when I'm not really hungry - just a couple of cookies, maybe some cheese and crackers, a handfull of grapes for reasons that I'm not entirely sure of. Then I read the following and it actually made me gasp. " ...binge eating is not about the amount of food you eat, but the way you eat it. Two cookies can be a binge if you eat them with urgency, desperation and the pressing need for an altered state " . Wow. Talk about a change in perspective! That will give me something to chew on besides a granola bar! > > I have found a nice little resource at Prevention.com, for those of us > when we need a pick-me-up at work or just when we are feeling like we > are struggling. Guest guest
That same quote was my aha moment last night too! I know there are times when I get super busy at work, and grab 4 to 6 pieces of peanut butter fudge to stuff in my face as I race around getting things done (I work at a chocolate factory). Even I wouldn't have thought that was a binge, per se, but after reading what Geneen said made me change my mind. I now realize that I stuff that fudge as a way to calm myself from stress, or to show myself "see, I am working so hard and under so much pressure that I HAVE to eat this peanut butter fudge because I am just too busy to stop and eat a real meal." It's a binge, and I should have known it was a binge because I was eating it for all the wrong reasons. I'm glad you got something out of it too!
