Thank goodness he is past most of that now, but there are always a few that just don't get what his disease is and still torment him.

Teri

Oh awful for both of you kids, I am sure that the lower grades espcially jr high would have been awful because at that age they all want to fit in. I am sorry to ask this but until the 2 of you started talking about this disease, I had never heard of it could you please explain it to me or if you don't want to talk about it just point me to a website where I can find out.

Teri and Ginny, just so sorry for your kids having hair troubles as know my son's hair is so fine and thin that always seen his scalp and has been loosing hair so sort of hair on head but not sure many notice it much. Just know for kids so young is hard, hard, hard to be different in any way at all. Ginny so happy your daughters hair came back. Is that a very rare thing, have a little girl in church that was born without hair and is now around 8 or 10 and still no hair as of yet she just goes as if not a problem. No wig or anything and has friends so her parents and family have certainly helped her get through this well.

Teri, hope your son's hair grows down back of his head so he can feel better. And if pictures are do would be so great for him to have his hair as he would like. Is this your son that was burned Teri? And how is doing as far as scars, and pain. Is he going to have to have surgery or do they know yet? Hope he is well. Take care both of you.

Hugs

Teri,

Awesome suggestion!! I should have thought of it since my daughter at 14 got alopecia areata..and we got a wonderful wig that was contoured to her head perfectly. Thankfully her hair grew back at 16. I donated my hair the first time I cut it...so did my mom and 3 other family memebers. This is what loss of memory does...Glad you suggested it..Hugs...Ginny

JoAnn,

My daughter had non scarring alopecia areata...it sometimes goes with lupus or other autoimune disorders...she has not been dx with anything as of yet...but with her genic make-up...I am sure at some point she will be because I have so many autoimune disorders that can be passed on genetically unfortunately. Many different things can cause alopecia but there are 2 types...scarring and non scarring. You can only find out which you have by having biopsies of the scalp taken. Fortunately non scarring types you can possibly have your hair grow back..unfortunately it can fall back out at anytime again and can become a vicious circle. My daughter has gone through that and for a teenage girl it is devastating. She lost it at 14 yrs old the first time...then after a few months it grew back but with huge bald spots. When we thought it was finally looking like a very short cut..it all fell out again...this time the hair on her legs fell out some too..but in

splotchy patterns. That was when I bought her her first wig. But wigs bought at stores are rough on totally bald heads and leave an awful itchy rash. At 16 she was finally able to go without a wig....we were so happy...she went about 2 months and then huge clumps of hair began falling out again and she had huge bald spots again..that is when we went to locks of love for a hairpiece. We had to shave the hhair that was left off and do a model of her head and it is made out of a flexible rubber and real hair that was donated. So it suctioned onto her head and did not irritate her scalp. Now she is 8 days away from her 18th b-day is able to go without a wig and has hair that is very short but full. So she is very happy about this..but i do know she worries that it will fall out again....I am hoping this time it stays...How are you feeling? Has anything helped with the pain in your feet? Hope to talk

soon....Hugs..GinnyJoAnn & Russ Ford wrote:

Ginny what a rough road for your daughter and you to go through these years. It is so hard to have hair problems of any sort no matter how old we are because you know no matter what you wear, how beautiful you face when your hair looks bad most women just feel rotten and most have hard day feeling totally yucky. So your daughter is one very strong, lady, who has learned hard lessons but will help her greatly in her life when troubles of other kinds come to have to deal with. She certainly must know well many coping skills that you have been able to teach her. Is sad that she may of inherited a autoimune disease from you but perhaps if she has one will be mild and medicine will have something new and better to treat her with.

I am having such pain in foot since had the epidural on Thursday. Do not understand this at all but hope by sometime Sat. will start to find some relief. The sympatric block did alot more good for me than this one epidural so far. Am scheduled for one more on the 30th of Sept. then go back to doctor to see if worth a 3rd try. I really think that the sympathetic is the best and will be best just hope the doctor will agree and do the blocks for me.

Well take care Ginny and sure hope you are able to find some pain relief for yourself. Seems like a great struggle is going on for many as others have noted. Not sure why so many are having problems at same time. Are you doing anything special this weekend......wonder what people might have planned to do. Is going on 4am and not able to sleep. Do so dislike this as means body will want to sleep on a Sat. when husband home and just cannot do that to him. Going to need prayers to fight past what body yelling at me to do over what need to do for Russ and myself. Many gentle hugs Ginny
