I went to a party today - observing the differences between now and then

We went to a birthday party today. Here are the differences between what it

was like before and what it's like now:

Hors d'oeuvres

Before:

I was anxious to get to the hors d'oeuvres before they ran out. I would fill my

small plate with a lot of stuff and then often go back for 2nds, sometimes

sending my fiance up for me because I was embarrassed because of my weight.

Today:

I went up to the hors d'oeuvres and took a moderate portion and didn't go up for

2nds. I didn't feel like I had to race up there to get them. In fact, I didn't

care much about them one way or the other.

Bread

Before:

I would either be going crazy over the bread because I wasn't allowed to eat it

or I'd eat too much of it.

Today:

I had two slices of bread and still wanted a little more so I split one more

slice with my fiance and was satisfied.

Salad

Before and Today: Had a good sized portion

Main Course:

Before: I would fill my plate a lot and would be anxious about getting enough

food before the plates emptied and got to me. If they were emptied, I would ask

for more.

Today: I took a small piece or one piece of each item. There weren't many

veggies left and there was one person after me so I had a small amount of

veggies. In the past, I would have either taken them all or asked for more.

Dessert:

Before: I would watch everyone else eating the dessert and I would pass. I

didn't feel overly deprived because I did this for so many years but I felt out

of place.

Now: I had the dessert with everyone. I tried to eat it very mindfully and I

didn't finish it all.
