I feel crummy all the time, chocolate or not. I often bark up the wrong tree Georgia....and must confess, actually think that chocolate is not as bad for you as many other things. Just thought it was funny how a thread can come back and bite you... (more mixed metaphors)
Guest guest
> I was in the local rotten vegetable store yesterday, looking to > see what new disgusting low-carb junk food they'd have on special > this week. Hi Gretchen I'm fascinated by the concept of a " rotten vegetable store " . We used to have NQR stores down in - " Not Quite Right " which sold cans past use-by date or things which were rejected for general sale - it sounds similar. I like the term " disgusting low-carb junk food " , although we may apply it differently. I shy away from anything marked or advertised as low-carb; I just eat less of good quality real food. The only time I ever tried low-carb ice cream it gave me the runs - there was an 'ose or an 'itol in there somewhere. Never again. Same on chocolate - buy the best, top quality 70+% dark chocolate - and eat one single piece at a time. Both a lovely treat after my one-hour dinner post-prandial and a test of self-discipline:-) Cheers, Alan, T2 d & e, Australia

Eat one single piece at a time. That's what I do - then I eat another single piece at a time, then another, then .... you get the picture - I think you said something about discipline? And you used that word in the same paragraph with the word " chocolate " ? That's a new concept. I'll have to think about that. I do absolutely agree, that, for me, the ols and ose things are a waste of time and money. When I want it, I'm going for the real thing and a syringe - enough with these trips to the bathroom, already. CarolR

Gretchen> I think it is that ole enhanced sweet detector thing again--if one does not eat sweet sugary things one's sweet taste sensors seem to get extra sensitive. I know mine are also. I know mine are also. Except it's only real sugar that does this. I can eat a lot of sugar alcohols, and although things taste very sweet and may raise m BGs, I don't get that long-lasting taste. I used to get this taste when I ate HUGE amounts of sugar, for instance if I was making cookies and constantly " testing " the batter, licking the spoons, licking the bowl, etc. In fact, I used fake sugar for some things pre-Dx because of that. It might have something to do with mouth bacteria growing on the real sugar. Gretchen
