Guest guest
Thanks everyone for all the insight. I am new at this. I love to eat. Since I started IE I am doing better with making food choices that my body wants, not my crazy emotions/stress. For example, I love sweets but I don't feel good sometimes when I eat them. So, I am making healthier choices and that feels good. I always thought that if I only ate when I was hungry I would be thin because my true hunger signals-growling stomach,etc- really don't happen that much. Here is my issue-I feel like I need to have something of a meal schedule because I don't want to leave the house without eating or go to bed without dinner because I risk eating out where the choices are not so good, or getting up in the middle of the night and eating (something I never use to do but have been doing regularly over the last 5 yrs). Do you follow a meal " schedule " even if you are not really hungry? Another insight is I realized I get such an emotional " fix " from food that eating when I am not hungry for emotional reasons (often just boredom) will make me eat MORE because the food doesn't taste good because I wasn't hungry to begin with. So I go on to a richer, better food to see if THAT will taste good and satisfy me. I still eat when I'm not hungry, I am just trying to choose a healthy food that I actually like and want and not eat too much of it. I think this is still not good and a little scary. I feel like I am so close to out of control. It feels better to be in control. I am scared of those feelings of shame and regret. Thanks for listening. Guest guest
I too enjoy a 'meal' (sit down dinner) as part of my routine each day. What you can experiment with and find for yourself is 'how long' will eating X 'hold' you? Example - if you find that eating a piece of cheese will 'hold' you 2 hours, you can eat a piece 2 hours before you want to have dinner. And if dinner time is only an hour away and you are hungry, you can opt to eat a piece of fruit that will only 'hold' you an hour.
