Guest guest Posted January 7, 2004 Report Share Posted January 7, 2004 , I'm glad you have the psychiatrist's recommendation for the surgery, but this doesn't just sound odd, it's down-right scary! It was explained to me that the purpose of the eval was to make sure you understood the changes that would take place, and acknowledged your commitment to making it work, as well as exhausting most other avenues to lose weight. I'm sure just as diets from the doctors, etc. are all different, the psych eval is too, but this just doesn't sound right. I'd make sure I never saw him for anything, even a band-aid! It went alright, the doc kinda offended me.......one of the 1st questions he asked me was how did I let myself get this over weight? I just kinda stammered and said I didn't know really. That I have been big my whole life. The test that they make you take is just silly. It asked me ?? like I am possed by evil spirits? T or F I mean c'mon, what kind of a nut job do they think I am! The test was called the MMPI, and it gauges certain things about your personality and raises any red flags. For example, if you are inconsistent with your answers -- notice how they asked the same things throughout but changed the wording -- it shows that you might not be honest with yourself and probably wouldn't be a good candidate for surgery. Mine was just speaking with a psych and asking me NORMAL questions like, did I think this was going to be easy before and after surgery and what are my weight loss expectations. Glad I didn't go where you guys did, they would have locked me up! -- Re: Psychiatric Eval. I am such a smart ass anyway I almost answered some of the really stupid ones like, " I think people are out to get me? " T or F, i almost answered true. Just to see what they would do. LOL One the questions was " I would like the work of a park ranger " T or F. \ Ummmmmm Nooope. LOL I know it was to see if I was mentally stable enough to handle all the changes and I think I passed.
