Yogurt reuse-able as starter?

It seems like I read that you can take a tablespoon of previous

yogurt batch and use it just like started with a new batch - but

I've tried twice now with not outstanding success. First time it

was watery so I mixed better the second time and the yogurt is -

well, for lack of a better description - lumpier and more sour.

Both times there was also a layer of tan " gunk " at the bottom of

each cup.

Any ideas? I'm trying to be frugal since starter is so expensive -

but don't worry, I'm still experimenting on me and NT daughter, not

ASD son!

BTW - we discovered that my son's bad reaction to the nut yogurt was

probably an intestinal virus since both my husband and I came down

with D serially after my son (and my husband had not had the

yogurt). It took the little guy longer to stablize than us so I've

held off on reintroducing... Maybe next week when we find out if

the Nystatin and diet did the trick with the yeast. FINGERS CROSSED!

AMK mom to Will 3.5 PDDNOS, and NT - both gifted in their own

ways
