" should I even try while he's still taking this? "

Yes, you should continue with the diet. Otherwise, you will just

have a harder time next week restarting because he will want

foods that you have let him have this week that are not SCD

legal.

I would consider calling the doctor and having him rechecked

right now and see if the infection is clearing at all. Like I said

before, Bicillin shots will kill the strep throat in 24 hours time.

I would guess that the infection is only being supressed by the

antibiotics and not actually going away at all. I would try the " big

guns " of a shot and get the PE tube surgery scheduled ASAP.

Please consider the dairy free trial of a month. Do a search

yourself on google on dairy consumption and ear infections.

Most mainstream doctors don't buy into it, but there are too many

kids whose ear infections stopped with the removal of dairy for it

to just be coincidence. Maybe it only works for 1% or 10% or

20%, but if your child is in that small percentage, then it works

100% for your child. :)

Two year olds are notoriously finicky. Part of growing up is

realizing that you don't run the world and you are not the center of

the universe. It is a hard lesson to learn (and some people

never learn it), but allowing him to freely choose a snack is

self-defeating. You are teaching him that he has options and

control over something that a 2 year old does not need to control.

Choices should include two things that you offer. If he chooses

not to eat either item, then he goes hungry. He may scream and

cry and act like the end of the world is coming, but he will live and

your life will get easier as he realizes that some things are not

within his realm to control.

Please don't think I am being harsh or criticizing your parenting

because I am not. I am just passing along advice that was given

to me by my son's developmental therapist. She was totally right

and what she taught me worked wonders. Two year olds need

limited choices. Choices between two reasonable options,

that's it.

Have you tried frozen bananas? They are really good cut in thin

slices. They taste like slices of ice cream.

I also think that $10 a jar for almond butter is a crazy price. I live

in a very rural area and it's not even that much here. I think your

local store is price gauging you on the almond butter. It can be

bought in bulk here for under $5 a pound.

if the milk product reduction doesn't help the ear infections,

consider apples.

My middle son, no ASD, had an ear infection at 8 months -12 months.

We scheduled surgery for tubes. The dr believed in allergy reduction

first and asked us to eliminate a list of foods before surgery. At

the preop visit his ears were clear, culprit for him was apples.

He's never had another ear infection, he's now 7.

I know that. When my first son was this age, I did exactly that. I would give

him the

choice of green peas or broccoli. He thought he had a choice, but it was still

what I

wanted him to have. I think because Liam has been so sick all his little life,

I've given in to

him more than i did the older one.

My local Whole Foods sells the medium jar of Maranth (sp?) for $11.99. I found

a different

brand at a small health food co-op for $9.99. I live just outside of DC where

gas is still at

$2.29 per gallon.

Hi , I ordered a jar of cashew butter from Digestive Wellness. It

was $6.25 but 18 ounces. It was really good. They have almond butter too.

Just a thought...........maybe ordering online would be cheaper for you?

,

I still think the price is outrageous. Gas is around $2 a gallon

here too, with the price fluctuating up to the $2.15 range.

But almond butter is no where near that expensive. Have you

checked online to see if anyone is selling it and offering Free

Shipping deals?

I know all about the spoiling the sick child dilemna. Been there,

done that. But in the long run, it's still better to stick to limited

choices. It makes everyone's life easier in the long run. (But boy

is it hard when you begin to try to implement it. Perseverance is

a must!)
