Guest guest
Great idea! I was thinking of something similar myself In my case, I'm just recovering with a bout of the flu and a secondary infection in my salivary glands, layered on top of extended PMS (because being so sick threw off my cycle) and insanity at work -- I'm seeing this Monday as sort of a rebirth of awareness!! For this week, I'm going to focus on my drinking. It sounds horrible when I say that LOL, but since I finished having kids and nursing, I've just gotten in the habit of having a drink or two in the evening to relax and let go of the day ... and I notice that 1-2 turns into 2-3 or sometimes even 4 at night!! never drunk, just sipping away all night long until bedtime, habitually pouring another glass and not paying attention to 'how much'. So.... this week I am NOT going to make a THOU SHALT NOT DRINK rule, but I am going to follow my own advice in an earlier post to be CONSCIOUS about what I'm doing and why - " do I really want this flavor? " " what feeling do I want? " " are there healthier ways to get that feeling? " etc. I think I've put off working on the drinking for so long (I've been IE for almost 6 months now) because it's been hard for me to let go of my own judgement about the process -- like if I think about cutting back, that means I think I have a " problem " with drinking and I wasn't ready to make that connection. In fact, I DON'T think I have a problem with the alcohol - but it's an awful lot of empty calories for someone unhappy with my creeping weight gain!! But somehow, today, I woke up ready to address the issue the same way I looked at my pepsi habit, my afternoon sandwich habit, and my " I can't study without hostess cupcakes " habit -- just another food that is permissable but doesn't always honor my body or my needs. So that's what I'm going for this week Sorry I'm so long-winded today!! Mikki ..
Guest guest
I am working on not taking more food in my fork before I finish chewing on what I currently have in my mouth. I just recently noticed I did that.
Guest guest
This week I'm working on allowing myself the foods I want, when I want them without trying to find a " lower calorie yet less satisfying " substitution. For example, allowing the sourdough toast that I really want rather than forcing the 45 calorie wheat toast that isn't as good just for the sake of saving 100 calories or so. > > I am working on not taking more food in my fork before I finish chewing on > what I currently have in my mouth. Guest guest
Great question! This week I am working on stopping eating when I am full. I have gotten pretty good at eating when I am hungry. If I eat when I am not hungry, I at least try to work thru whatever is going on and acknowledge what is happening (so it isn't an unconscious binge). But, when we are eating and talking at the dinner table (we don't watch TV during dinner - just never have unless the Steelers are in a playoff game or Superbowl!) - I am just shoveling it in and not always paying attention to what I am eating or if I am full. Kimberlie IE since 11/08 Subject: What are you working on?To: IntuitiveEating_Support Date: Monday, March 16, 2009, 9:04 AM Hi there.I thought it might be fun to talk about what we're working on this week so we can see what other people are on their journeys and encourage them along. Plus this week we aren't running production at work and I'm going to be kind of bored and will need to chat! :)This week I am focusing on hunger. I'm going to work on not eating until I have true stomach hunger and then stopping when it's satisfied. Since I won't have very many interruptions at work I'm hoping I can use the relative calm to tune into my internal cues.So what are you working on this week?
