Your son sounds much like my youngest son whom has celiac. Before

changing his diet he was losing weight, vomiting, diarrhea, could not

sleep and was crying all the time. Since I had read that the damage

caused to the intestines prevents proper digestion of dairy, I kept

him off dairy for the first year. He now has no problem with dairy

but has been GF for over 2 years. He has only had one ear infection

in his life. He also only gets SCD legal dairy and has never drank

cow's milk in his life.

What you need to know is there are 3 completely different reactions

to certain foods and the test for one does not rule out or confirm

the other. An allergy test will not say if a child is celiac or

not. It is a different type of response. My autistic son was tested

by an allergist for wheat and she said since he was not allergic to

wheat he is not celiac. When I took him to a GI specialist (whom is

very knowledgable in celiac) he laughed that an allergist would be so

ignorant. Not only that, my son had been gluten-free for 4 months

and she had no idea that would make a difference. A food allergy is

an immune system response to a particular food. An intolerance is

the inability for the body to digest a particular food. One can be

intolerant to a particular food and not have an immune system

response. One of the most common intolerances that will not show up

on an allergy test is lactose intolerance. In children, the most

common symptoms of dairy intolerance is colic and ear infections.

Toss out those allergy test results and go with what works.

> The only thing the doctors could come up with for my one year old

was celiac. He was very health baby until right after turning a year

old. At 12 months old he started with diarrhea and vomiting. It

went on for three months before he was off the charts. They kept on

insisting that he had the flu. He weighed less at 15 months than he

did at 9 months old. He would cry all the time and was not able to

sleep through the night. It was like having a new born with colic.

While we were waiting for the tests to come back they had me put him

on a gluten/milk free diet. All the symptoms stopped and he gained a

1lb in a week. We relocated to GA and my son's new doctor suggested

I try giving him some milk. He seem to do fine on it. The only

thing was he started to have recurring ear infections. I would clear

up the ear infection and he would still complain his ears hurt when

he would get up from a nap. I would take him to the doctor and he

would say they were fine. In March my

> older son (almost four) had a series of allergy blood test done

because I was concern he might have celiac. The test showed my

oldest was highly allergy to milk protein. Go figure! Well, I had

my youngest tested and it came back negative. I put them both on a

GF/CF diet because it was easier. Well, lets just say no more ear

complaints or infections. Also, my youngest has gained a pound a

month after GF/CF diet was in place. The scd has helped with his

constipation and swollen tummy. Also, he started to potty train

thanks to the scd. We are new to the scd but I feel this is the

missing piece to our problem. I also use the Kirkman calcium

powder. I like the convenience of using it when you cook or bake.
