Guest guest
Yes! I have been thinking about this a lot lately. Every time I hear any reference around me to dieting I cringe... because I now hear diet words differently. I now hear it as not " I need to lose weight, I need to diet " but instead " I hate how I look, and I hate apart of myself " . In a way, it has been making me sad. And I am still hearing a lot of diet talk left over from the new year resolutions. I hope it starts to wear off soon! - K > > Has anyone ever noticed that there are entire > businesses that have vested interests in WOMEN > especially continuing to hate their bodies and/or > other things about themselves and HOW much money > gyms, diet companies and other types of improvement > doctors/businesses benefit from society's self-hatred? > > Really QUITE a commentary on US society in > particular, although I think it is getting to be > similar in other places around the world... > > in AZ >
Guest guest
It's really true. I live in Los Angeles, where by the local standard I am worthy of my own TV show on the Discovery channel - THE 150 POUND WOMAN!!! I never was into acting or anything like it but you can't help but be aware of all the money women spend on this stuff, in part because women actors can't get a job any other way. gyms, trainers, yoga, pilates, nutritionists, etc. diet food. it makes me angry. We're leaving CA in a few months, it looks like, and I'll be glad. thea > > Has anyone ever noticed that there are entire > businesses that have vested interests in WOMEN > especially continuing to hate their bodies and/or > other things about themselves and HOW much money > gyms, diet companies and other types of improvement > doctors/businesses benefit from society's self-hatred? > > Really QUITE a commentary on US society in > particular, although I think it is getting to be > similar in other places around the world... > > in AZ >
Guest guest
Hi , I've been noticing this also lately. It's frustrating! And sad... I was in the grocery store today and it just amazes me how almost every magazine cover advertises a way to lose weight or " fix " ourselves in some manner. It made me think of how much time I've wasted reading that junk. And then I thought of how much I could accomplish if I put all that energy towards something positive and useful > > Has anyone ever noticed that there are entire > businesses that have vested interests in WOMEN > especially continuing to hate their bodies and/or > other things about themselves and HOW much money > gyms, diet companies and other types of improvement > doctors/businesses benefit from society's self-hatred? > > Really QUITE a commentary on US society in > particular, although I think it is getting to be > similar in other places around the world... > > in AZ >
Guest guest
I spent the first 38 years of my life trying to figure out what was wrong with me. I felt very "broken". I felt like my own family was very critical of me (of course my mother sees it very differently!) Then I was married for 19 years to a man with no sense of humor (I am a constantly cracking jokes) and he and his family treated me like there was something wrong with me. My weight climbed and climbed. Divorce and finding a man just like me (very good sense of humor) and I declare that I AM NOT BROKEN & NEVER WAS! I was with the wrong family. Feeling wanted and accepted for who you are is the most wonderful feeling in the world! I agree that we get this message not just from our families but from TV, radio, and print publications. Buy this and do this and you too will be fixed. BAH!
