Guest guest
Hello all I am 37 years old, and formally suffered from having an eating disorder when I was in my late teens/early 20s. I'd like to say I've outgrown it, but it is still something I battle with. It is something that will always be a part of me. I've read the IE book and I love and totally understand the concept. The hard part for me is to get there 'cause I just don't trust myself w/ food right now. I've had these " diet " habits for so many years and learning to break them is the hard part. I've heard that you can possibly gain a few pounds at the beginning of the program before you get on track, but my biggest fear is to gain weight...and then having to buy new clothes because of it. Any advice for a newbie like me would be great! Thanks for listening Michele
Guest guest
Welcome Michele, As long as the time it took to build diet mentality into your life, figure it will take some goodly time to replace that with IE. Its just a process that takes time, although I think you will find that you enjoy it more than you do dieting ;-) Learning to (re) trust yourself is what we all face in the beginning too. But when you think about it, isn't yourself THE one you should be trusting?!? No one but YOU knows when you are hungry, for what, and how much of it will satisfy you. We have all too long bowed to the 'experts' who wanted to direct us with set formulas/tables/guides etc. And has the end results of those great inputs been a 'perfect' you?!? More than likely a driven crazy one - lol!! And when you think about it, what's the objection to new clothes? If budget is a big motivation factor, don't overlook thrift stores where others who changed sizes have sent their old not worn clothing. Its re-cycling really Just do a baby step at a time and you will soon find yourself on your IE journey. And if you can't toss your scale yet, consider putting your ideal weight # pasted over the top of the window on your scale. Its only really a number - how you feel is much more important! Best to you, Katcha IEing since March 2007 > > Hello all > > I am 37 years old, and formally suffered from having an eating disorder when I was in my late teens/early 20s. Guest guest
Something that helped me to " let go " more and have an open mind about this is to remember that dieting had nothing to offer me anymore so why not jump in and go for it? I started bring binge foods home, etc., things I didnt think I would ever do. I'm actually losing a bit of weight slowly, which is a nice bonus for me. But most importantly I've really been getting in touch with my intuitive self about many other things besides eating too.
