Guest guest
Hello - I hope December finds everyone as healthy as can be - I had LASIK done on both eyes the day after Thanksgiving. My eyesight is (was!) very bad -850 and -900. I went for my one week and 2 day checkup today - 20/20 in the right eye - 20/25 in the left. I have severe dry eye syndrome which is slowing the recovery process a little. The eye doctor had to put plugs in my tear drains to help keep my eyes moist. He said 1 in 10 people have dry eyes - mine are just that much more severe. My husband made a comment " why can't you do things simply " referring to the traumas of the past year with the surgery and spinal problems. He was trying to lighten up my mood at the time (I think). Anyway - for any ACM'rs thinking of having it I am very happy with the results and how I feel. I had a mild headache for a few days after the surgery - and again in the middle of the week - but it was treatable with tylenol and keeping my eyes moist. Headaches are gone and vision is great. Have a happy holiday everyone! Lorene ACM 1 - 10mm Decompressed 6/28/
Guest guest
I read in the Journal of the American Medical Association that dry eyes (I have them also) can also be attributable to HRT (hormone replacement therapy). (My eye problems are from Graves Disease and resultant 17 eye surgeries - some major, some minor!) Guest guest
Before any LASIK operation, its important to have an evaluation for your pupil size. We've all seen the stories on 20-20, etc. My opthalmologist evaluated me and said that my pupil size was too large for LASIK surgery. He said they currently make the machines to remove only a certain diameter around the eye. If your pupul size is larger than that, you will get 'halo' vision as a result at the unremoved portion. He said that the stories you hear on tv are from people who had large pupils, but were not evaluated properly before surgery. I just wanted to pass on this info, another caveat for us in the medical field. Guest guest
I have another one for you too - dry eyes can be related to Sjogren's Syndrome, some CM members in the past have had this too. How confusing is this medical stuff?
