Guest guest
AH your Endo will LOVE having an excuse to not tell you your synthetic thyroid is to blame. While your Chiro visit may have made you feel the symptoms, I don't believe it caused them. It sounds to me like you are having Hashi swings where your thyroid is slowly burning itself out. These will not get better and eventually you will not have the racing heart but just a bone tired and aches and pains in every joint. I would be asking for some Armour if I were you. I found my doctors used anything I told then as a reason for feeling badly except for it couldn't possibly be my thyroid or the Synthroid I was on. For years I listened and went to different specialists and never dreamed it ALL could be just from being on the wrong meds. That many doctors couldn't all be wrong, could they? Well they WERE!!! Since being on Armour for the last 4 1/2 years my blood pressure has come way down, my heart rate is at a normal one again, my pain in all my joints is gone, the swelling in my legs is gone, tendonitis, gone, headaches & nosebleeds, gone. No more pneumonia, or bronchitis. While I am still getting my health back from the 25 or so years of Synthroid, I have to say, never ONCE did any doctor suggest my health problems could be from being on the wrong meds. But anything else they could come up with that was in their disfavor at the moment.. Oh and don;t forget to go on the 1200 calorie a day diet and get more exercise! Guest guest
i don't know what the cause of that is, but i do know that chiropractic adjustments can affect organs, nerves and accupressure points. i think you should absolutely report this to both your endocrinologist AND the chiropractor. baron > > > I am new, but I haven't had time to introduce myself, but before I > called my doctor, I wanted to get some feedback from some of you. > > I am Hypo and take 100mcg of Levoxyl. Guest guest
I definitely have severe problems in my neck with bone & disc deterioration & severe scoliosis in that area which undoubtedly is causing nerve inpingement & affecting my thyroid I think. I've heard recently that upper cervical chiro adjustments balance out the entire spine from the neck up & down so that total healing & balancing of the body then takes place. I'm going to try that as I found an upper cervical chiro about 40 minutes drive south of me. So soon as I get a car I'm heading there to try that. Guest guest
HI, Christin, I don't know the answer to your question. But I wanted to welcome you! Glad to have you with us and hope You get better and better! in Va. I am new, but I haven't had time to introduce myself, but before I called my doctor, I wanted to get some feedback from some of you. I am Hypo and take 100mcg of Levoxyl. As far as I could tell, I haven't had any problems for about 2 years. I went the chiropracter last Monday (the 18th). She did a bunch of neck massages on the " back " of my neck. She did NOT adjust it like they normally do. Just massaged it. The next day I woke up feeling horrible. I was exhausted and every muscle in my body ached. I felt like I had been in a car accident. At first I thought it was just from the work she had done on my neck and back. But there were other strange symptoms too -- for one on I could hardly open my eyes I was so sensitive to light. I had to wear my sunglasses outside, and it was overcast. So, by Wednesday evening I figured something was definitely going on, I determined that I felt just like I had in the past when my thyroid had gone cockeye and my meds had to be adusted. Then I started back tracking and recalling that I've really been exhaused for a couple of months now, but didn't attribute to the thyroid. For one, when my thyroid is not fuctioning right, my heart beats really fast...but I didn't notice that the past couple of months. So I went into my Endocrinologist Thursday am for a blood work-up. Still haven't heard yet. However, by Saturday, I was feeling a lot better. Muscle aches had subsided for the most part, and I was getting some energy back. The biggest things I have noticed Sunday - today is a fast heart rate and headaches (so I'm pretty sure there's something happening with my thyroid). My muscles are still tight and tender but I do not ache anything like they did last week. My question is - do any of you think the chiro adjustment may have affected my thyroid function? Do you think I should call my doctor and tell him about the adjustment I had on the 18th and how the very next day I was VERY symptommatic but have improved since? Any feedback would be much appreciated. If you can email me, I would get it quicker.... christin971@...

Guest guest
Welcome to Christin. I've been on 125 mcg Synthroid for five years & recently started taking natural thyroid. I'll say this to the group for whatever discussion might prevail for I'd like to read the responses which might be helpful to myself & all of us. I'll also email her privately with much the same comments as this group email. For the past 40 years, I've had frequent chiropractic & osteopathic adjustments to my spine, neck & even crainiopathy adjustments to my skull years ago by various & sundry of these different specialists for my severe spinal pathologies. Most of which were caused by several accident-traumas to my head & neck as a child that wasn't adjusted by any chiropractors or osteopaths until I was about 30yo after a chair-fall accident, that had me crawling on the floor. So it never could be completely realigned or repaired due to years of neglect & seriously disturbed growth/repair to my skeleten, ligaments, tissues & muscle structure. At first about 35 years ago after that chair-fall & hospital traction for a week, I later had the snap, crackle, pop kind of chiropractic adjustments & milder osteopathic ones from many different practioners to the neck & spine area. Later about 15 years ago, I had many milder adjustments, massages & such by a craniopothist/chiropractor to my skull, head & neck & the rest of my spine. With emphasis on the skull bones & neck until he went out of business. But a few years ago after yet another accident, I began 2-3x weekly Network chiropractor adjustments which is a light tapping on the spine, upper cervical (neck) area & head that allows the spine to adjust itself. That all came to a screeching halt 3 years ago when I had to move/relocate tho. The past couple of years I've found chiropractors who use an activator to adjust the spine with no other type of hands-on manipulation since I couldn't find a Network chiropractor or osteopath in my area. Also many of these practioners the past 40 years, used different types of massages on my overall spine & neck area or they had a masseuse in their offices who did that afterwards. Anyway, never once have any of them suggested a thyroid dysfunction problem. Nor has any medical doctor I mentioned the adjustments to, had any comments about any of them one way or the other pertaining to thyroid function. But I always noticed that my pain levels increased for a few days after the adjustments no matter which kind I got. Generally I noticed the world seemed brighter & clearer & I needed sunglasses moreso right after the adjustments too. That was especially true with the Network chiro adjustments when I noticed the brighter, clearer light effect immediately upon sitting up after the treatment & a day or so afterwards & I could even see better to read a sign across the room that I couldn't read prior to the adjustment, as I'm generally near-sighted. With all of them tho, my overall body aches & pains increased for a few days or so. Especially excrutiatingly so to the point of complete incapacitation after one chiropractor I went to 2 years ago used an activator & also a cold laser on me for several treatments due to neck/shoulder severe pain & misalignments. When I asked a few of them why the pain & light sensitivity increased, they explained that the post-adjustments freed-up energy flow up the spinal cord & through the blood vessels & nerves to the glands & such, causing the toxins & poisons accumulated there to circulate into the blood stream to be eliminated from the body. But that elimination process takes about 3 days & while the toxins & poisons are then dumped into the blood stream, more aches & pains would be " the norm " for a while. The newly flowing energy to the thyroid as well would cause it to activate T-cells to go into the bone marrow & deeper tissues to release the built-up toxins into the blood stream. And also to cause the glands to dump their previously restricted toxic build-up into the blood stream to be eliminated. I once had a total body glandular specific massage that caused me a lot of pain afterwards for a few days. So these adjustment/massage/spinal/neck tapping processes would definitely cause changes in the thyroid for the better I would think as the energy flow to it becomes less restricted from the previously tightened, spasmed muscles, nerves, etc. in the neck & upper cervical areas. Matter of fact, a couple of months ago I read online that upper cervical/Atlas adjustments by a chiropractor who specializes in that, gives optimum results to adjusting the entire spine after however amount of treatments to keep it in place, the patient needs. From what I read, the upper cervical/Atlas adjustments cause the entire spine to align itself properly so that all other related aches, pains & maladjustments fade away & everything repairs itself. The amount of time that would take would depend on the individual's unique problems or the duration of them I would suppose. So I'm going to get an appointment with an upper cervical chiro who I recently found, tho I have to drive a distance to get to her, to start those treatments for myself. I'll expect to have more pain & greater sensitivity to light afterwards as usual. But I doubt this would be a cure-all for the thyroid especially in people like myself who have long-standing injuries & life-long spinal/neck/cranial misalignments. I will still take the Armour & see how it goes & am not saying this would be a replacement for taking natural thyroid at all but would be a helpful adjunct to helping it work better according to my understanding so far. Christin could mention the chiro neck massage & later symptoms to her doctor but I doubt she'll get much comment on it from a medical doctor one way or the other as M.D.s don't usually know much about chiropractor adjustments. And they never, (in my experience) refer patients to them & some don't even condone them at all. Could be wrong tho about Christin's endo. But no M.D. I ever saw had the least bit to say about it one way or the other. And neither did any chiropractors or masseuses suggest I might need thyroid blood tests or supplementation therapy. I'd like to read comments from others with this experience. Caroline RE: Chiro adjustments and thyroid HI, Christin, I don't know the answer to your question. But I wanted to welcome you!
