You're subscribed to OSSG-New England, you would get everyone's individual e-mails as they come, unless you modify it, and put it to receive the digest version (all combined into one).

Hi,

I have been following the site for a couple of weeks, and I am

considering this diet for my son. I live in Mobile, AL.

I'm considering the diet for my son who is 2 years old and who was

diagnosed with ASD by neurologists in April. We started the GF/CF diet

in late April/ early May, and he responded dramatically in my opinion.

According to a recent evaluation by developmental pediatrician this past

week, my son is not ASD, but pretty much developmentally on track with

sensory issues and some speech delay (quite a bit stimming, oral tactile

issues etc.). I don't know what is his appropriate label, nor do I

really care. I know something is going on, and I know that diet is

related. He has always had loose stools to D his whole life, bouts of

eczema, etc. Anyway, SCD makes sense to me, and I am going to hear

Elaine G. speak next week.

I have to be honest though, I am extremely intimidated by this diet. I

work full time and my son has a lot of sensory issues / tactile issues

with food. Plus, my husband thinks I'm a little crazy to try another

diet. I'm going to need some help and encouragement that is for sure.

I'll keep you updated, but I wanted to introduce myself and let you know

there is someone on the Gulf Coast considering.....

Mom to Bryars, 2 yrs./ GF/CF 3 months.

My 18 year old son has Crohn's. Diagnosed 3 years ago. Found the

SCD May, 2004. Has helped tremendously! Anyone near the Miss. Gulf

Coast?

Hi ,

This diet is doable by a full time worker. I consider myself one as

I homechool my 3 children. You originally make a small batch of

something, if it is ok with your child then you double or triple and

freeze in ziploc bags. Meatblls, muffins, pancakes all at your

finger tips when you need them. Take it from me very doable.

Just start at the intro diet work slowly and keep a food log.

Amazing things will happen!

Hi and welcome.

I am pretty new here myself but have been lurking a long time. I was

motivated to respond because I had exactly the same concerns, but

have been shocked to find that the SCD is actually easier for me than

GF/CF was. First, I don't have to go to tons of specialty stores,

buy funky ingredients I never heard of, check labels, call companies,

etc. Since my son now eats fresh whole foods only, I can pretty much

get most things (other than the nut flours and butters which I

generally get on-line and a once a month stop at a health food store)

at a regular grocery store. Second, I found that my son opened up

MUCH more to proteins when I cut out the rice, corn, potatoes, etc.

so now he eats very simple meals. We used to have to bribe him with

potato chips to take one bite of chicken. Now, he asks for it at

breakfast! Also, since you add new foods slowly on this diet, you

start with a narrow range of things and slowly build (I had to learn

that one the hard way!) We are now on week 9, and he eats chicken,

turkey, pork and ground meat, some cooked fruits and vegetables, one

type of cookie, one type of muffin and one bread recipe (made with

different nut butters). It is still a lot of cooking, especially

because every morsel he eats is cooked by yours truly - and I work

full time too - but even over these few weeks, I am finding ways to

be efficient (everything freezes!).

It is so wonderful that you have started so early with your son an

that he has already shown that he will benefit from dietary

intervention. The wonderful folks on this board are also an enormous

source of advice and support.

Good Luck

(mom to , 5, ASD and Hanna, 7, NT; SCD 8 weeks)

Hi, everyone, I'm Harry. I'm new to this group.

I've been doing Intuitive Eating on my own (with my therapist's support) for

a few months now, and I feel it's really starting to work for me. But I

wanted some extra support, some daily reminders about how to relate to food

& my body in a healthy way. So I'm joining this group.

Welcome Harry! I am also new to the group and still have yet to read the book,

so I still have plenty to learn.

Welcome to both Harry and Tim.  Thought I'd jump in, too.  Glad you are here!  I joined a month or so ago.  I am finding this a most wonderful place for support.
