Guest guest
What helps me is pretending that I am writing a letter to someone else about what's going on with me... only the recipient is me, so I dont have to explain any background. Okay, so I’m not a big journaler, possibly in part because I don’t know how. It seems like it may be of a great help right now, and I know a lot of you do journal, so I was wondering if any of you have any advice on how to journal/ get started. I vaguely remember seeing a post with a list of starter questions posted last year sometime – around March, maybe? I searched for a few hours the other day but had no luck finding it. I vaguely remembered that Katcha may have been the the original poster, so I’m hoping someone can help me out. Thank you so much! -- Abigail C. Guest guest
Sorry , a 'list of starter questions' do not ring any bells with me I am not a journal type person myself. It seems that blogging may also serve this function for some people too. I'm crossing my fingers that someone will be better able to help you with this information. Have you tried a search of posts? I don't have great luck with that all the time, but at least its an option. Guest guest
I journaled for about a week and found it very tedious, also it pushed me into a diet mode. So other than give you my thought about that, I also won't be able to help much. Guest guest
Well, for me, journaling is a big, big help. I have realized how much of a help it was for me when I didn't do it for these past several years, and I am just now getting back into it. For me, I had a real fear that someone would find my rantings & ravings, and they were simply that...rantings so I could express my feelings, and they weren't meant for anyone else to see. So, unless I mind them being found for posterity, I just shred them once I get the feelings out. For me, I often will just start writing. I don't always use proper punctuation or complete sentences, because I'm just letting it all spill out on the paper, and it is for me, so I just want to get the feelings out there. There are journaling 'prompts' out there, but writing for me is a way I really enjoy expressing myself, so I usually just start with something that is either bothering me or something I'm excited about, or whatever. It is where I can think - I often don't think well on my feet, but for whatever reason, writing gives me that time to formulate my thoughts. You can erase or change your mind! I love that. You can use a computer or hand write, whatever you are comfortable with. I am thinking of re-doing this now....I used to have a journal with me and I would write in it before or after I ate anything for a limited period of time, just so that I could see how my feelings were involved in my eating choices. I am thinking of doing that again because it was such a learning experience. I hope you find it a cathartic experience! Okay, so I’m not a big journaler, possibly in part because I don’t know how.
