Hey Tim,

Try to stop the Desowen. I was using that stuff for about a year

and a half for some minor breakouts, splotches here and there, and a bit of

itching (I work around alot of chemicals so I thought all of these reactions

were from the exposure). I didnt have rosacea at the time. Well, as time went

on things got worse and all of a sudden my skin turned bright red and started

burning and itching. The texture of my skin was changing before my eyes. I

feel that the Desowen altered my skin and helped to bring out the rosacea.

It was tough stopping cortisone, but after trying Noritate and

zinc oxide ointment I was able to get past the rebound effects of going off

of cortisone. Try some zinc oxide ointment. It really helps the redness and

bumps. I use one made by Fougera. It contains zinc oxide, white wax, mineral

oil, and petrolatum. Most drugstores carry their own brand of zinc ointment

that contain the same ingredients. Try it in a small area for a few days to

make sure that you dont react. Zinc oxide ointment has become my best friend

these days! I carry it with me wherever I go.

The Nizoral shampoo works wonders for dandruff (seb derm? - I'm not clear on

the difference). It just went " Over the Counter. " I've seen commercials but

haven't seen in stores yet. I would ask a doctor if it's ok for young ones.

I don't use it every day, just every other day - I switch between my

favorites also. I heard it is also good, if diluted, to wash your face with

if you have cea.

Hi,

This is my first post to the list, but I've been reading the archives

for the past few days. I thought I would mention what has worked for me

in the past, explain my current situation, and then ask for suggestions

from the group. I was diagnosed with seb derm and rosacea four years

ago. I think I have more seb derm symptoms than rosacea symptoms, but my

face is quite red all over. For the first year Desowen lotion was very

helpful in controlling the symptoms. After that I tried Nizoral which

worked well for about six months. Since then I've been using Desowen

cream twice a week and Klaron lotion 4 times a week. Again, this

regeimen was very effective for a year or so, but has become

increasingly less so. Exsel shampoo and Neutrogena shampoo have always

been effective in controlling the flaking on my scalp. I haven't used

Metrocream or Noritate yet, but I plan to try one of them soon. Any

suggestions on which to try first? I've seen about five different

dermatologists in the past four years and none of them were particularly

knowledgeable on this subject. I would really value any suggestions the

group can offer. Also, if anyone would like to dicuss their situation or

their frustration with me, feel free to email me. It really helps to

talk about this stuff.

Thank you,

Tim

i've been having big problems with it as well. it set in when the rosacea got

so out of hand this year. awful stuff. i can never figure out why it is worse

on some days more than others. been wondering about the yeast theory and

ordered a book that came today. perhaps it will help.

several months ago it was so out of hand that my dr. gave me diflucan. i took

one a day for three days. absolutely all traces of it were gone and i was

thrilled until of course it started coming back. but for one wonderful week i

could have dressed from head to foot in black and ridden in a black

convertible with a black interior on a windy day and you wouldn't have seen

one flake! (except it would have had to be at night, diflucan had no effect

on the photosensitivity. oh well.)
