Guest guest
I think I must be experiencing this kind of dumping too....I tested out a few bites of pumkin cheesecake on Xmas...and got very lightheaded. And today for lunch, I was again tired and lightheaded all of a sudden...all I can think of was that it was a little ketchup? Silly as it seems, I am glad to have some kind of reaction to sugar. I seem to be tolerating most other foods well...with the noteable exception of pasta (not just ravioli, all kinds, ugh! LOL)
Guest guest
a, Sorry you experienced that, however, my Dr. said that fatigue and feeling " out of it " is also a sign of dumping. It can do a number of things to one's body: Rapid heartbeat, shakes, sweats, fatigue, confusion (that's me), and sometimes diarrhea/cramping. Just wanted to share with you'll on that. It's a form of dumping, which can also be a " delayed dumping " which can effect some, ranging from 20 minutes all the way as far as 12 hours later! ps...what did you have for dessert? Dawn Re: Question Hi Lois-- Congrats on the 99 lbs.! You must feel terrific! I too have experienced the fatigue you wrote about. I do not dump often at all, but the fatigue does happen with sugary things from time to time. (For me, it's when I have too much chocolate or cake.) Over the holidays, I did very well when it came to food. I did have a small problem on Christmas day at dessert. And shortly after I had my dessert. I fell asleep for FOUR HOURS! Completely exhausted, nauseated, and out of it. What I learned was that I had too much dessert and this seemed to be my body's reaction to the sugar, and an alternative to dumping. With the sudden exhaustion, it kind of threw me. I'm fine now though! Hope this helps! --a

Guest guest
How far out are you? Do you still have staples in? You may want to call your Dr. just to rule out everything, but hopefully, it's something with muscle tightening or something " silly " . Please keep us posted, and good luck! Dawn Question Hi, I've had some pain over the last week in the lower left side of my stomach - it hurts to bend down, cough and sometimes even hurts to the touch. I'm attributing it to healing. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it normal? Thanks
Guest guest
Sally, I am 7 weeks out. Most of the time I am not hungry and really have to force myself to eat. However, I have had " hungry " days where I have to stop myself from grazing... This really scares me so recently out, but the good news is I am aware of it and even when I eat too many meals the quantity is so small compared to what I use to eat, I try not to worry about it too much. I find that the surgery has given me great insight into my food triggers and eating habits. As they told me from the beginning the surgery is a tool, the rest of it is work on our part. I just did not think I was going have to " work " so early after surgery. It is great that you are getting your fluids in, but try real hard to get your protein in. Remember that the protein aids in the healing process and your body needs it. I think you are right where you are supposed to be.. Joni - Dr. Thayer 11/27/00 Re: question Joni and Sheva, I was one of those people who had many " last suppers " before my surgery. I gained 11 lbs from August's first consultation and a visit in December. Dr. Thayer was not happy with me and expressed that unhappiness. I knew what I would be up against if I ever showed up in the future with a not so good weight. I am working hard now so postoperatively. I have no appetite really and am just keeping fluids going. Will see them in 2 weeks for a check. Is that common immediately postop to not have an appetite and just push fluids because you know you need to? Sally question > > Does the doctor like you to loose a few pounds before > you have you surgery? If so how much would they like > you to loose or to try? Guest guest
Sheva, When I told my family about my plans for surgery I made it very clear to them that I was not seeking their approval, only their support. I was very fortunate that everyone was loving and supportive. On the other hand they had also seen my gain and loose 100's of pounds over the years and new that I was clinical depressed. Hang in there, Joni - Dr. Thayer 11/27/00 Question Just was wondering if anyone had any bad in put from family members about this surgery? I have not told my side of the family yet. I do not plan on it till it is all over with. But my husbands family is giving me alot of grieve about it. They keep telling me to go on a diet and to exercise the weight will come off. I am getting to the point where I will start to be nasty with them.Any advice would be great thanks . Sheva
Guest guest
Sheva: I picked and chose who I wanted to tell about my upcoming surgery. When I told my mom we got into a very loud argument about what a huge mistake I was making. I finally told her that I would not talk to her again regarding the surgery, that I have other people I can talk with to get support from. Occasionally she brings the subject up and I change it. I asked her to come to the Feb. 1 support meeting with me at NWH and she flat out said no. If she wants to remain ignorant regarding the surgery then that is her choice. I will have this done, I will loose weight and I will prove her wrong. Unfortunately if I have any complications at all I know her first words will be " I told you so. " I know this is the right decision for me, I am 39 years old and plan on living the rest of my life happy and healthy!
Guest guest
Hi , I know you addressed your comment to Sheva, but I had to post and tell you I think your attitude is GREAT!! I am so happy that you realize you have to live for YOU, and not anyone else. And you are right, if and when you need support, you can count on it here...everyone on this list is GREAT!!! Good luck, and keep us posted!! {{{Hugs}}} Sue

Guest guest
, You will slowly add new foods, every 4-5 days in 3 phases. You can eat saltines!! 5 at a time, this was such a treat for me... I don't have my paperwork with me but I believe it goes something like this: Phase 1: Eggs - scrambled, poached, etc. Soups - any kind Meats - 1 oz chicken, turkey, fish, meatloaf (I had a 1/4 of a meatball) Veggies - 1/2 C cooked Cheese - 1 oz Saltines - 5 Phase 2: Omelets 1/2 C casserole [this was great - I had lasagna, Shepard's pie, etc..] raw veggies Phase 3: Salad Toasted bread That's all I can remember... But right now I can eat just about anything.. I still get full very quickly and have to remind myself to slow down... They will go over this thoroughly on the 2nd. Good luck, Joni - Dr. Thayer 11/27/00 Question I go to the doctors on Feb2,01 to see Dr.Thayer.anyone who has had him please if you could answer this for me.
