Guest guest
Alison, my iron was 168 (35-185) Something happened to the tube of blood for the CBC ??? so I am having that drawn again tomorrow. No antibodies were done. I had them done 1-2 years ago and it was negative at that time. I don't have any medical insurance so I couldn't have everything done and had to draw the line somewhere. Thanks, Re: Lab Experts Needed > > did you happen to have a full blood count {Hb RBC, WBC] , fasting iron and TIBC , ESR and antibodies done? Guest guest
are you taking iron pills? If so stop right away, Go give some blood then in 4 weeks have your ferritin tested again. Are you on Armour? If so, add 15 mg or maybe 30 mgs if you can handle it. Are your palms red? Lab Experts Needed Hi, I just got my lab results back and need a little help interpretating them. Can someone help please? ferritin 453 (10-291) FT4 0.8 (0.8-1.8) FT3 3.4 (2.3-4.2) TSH (3rd generation) 2.299 (0.35-5.50) How does this look? I take 6 grains of Armour daily, divided. Guest guest
Whoa!! I am not an expert as to what amount of Ferritin is too high, but yours looks WAY too high. As Alison stated, you might want to investigate that. As far as your thyroid hormones, if you are on 6 grains daily and have numbers like that, you are DEFINITELY a candidate to add Cytomel to your Armour. You probably have a conversion problem. ALSO, with a conversion problem, you need to spacing out those 6 grains all during the day. How do you feel, by the way?? Guest guest
If I had labs like that on 6 grains daily, I would be increasing my Armour. Your Free T4 is JUST in range and Free T3 is not where it should be either. Your Ferritin should definitely be looked into.. too high! *Artistic Grooming * Hurricane, WV Fat cat? Diabetes? Guest guest
, duh on me. Your high Ferritin is probably WHY you have low free T3!! It's binding the T3. Also read below: Hemochromatosis is a condition that develops when too much iron builds up in the body. Small amounts of iron are normally stored in the liver, kidneys, and heart, but excess iron will eventually damage these organs. There are two types of hemochromatosis: Hereditary (genetic) hemochromatosis. The most common form of hemochromatosis is passed down through the genes in families. If your parents, any of your brothers, sisters, and/or children have genetic hemochromatosis, then you also may want to be tested for it. Acquired (secondary) hemochromatosis. You can develop acquired hemochromatosis from having many blood transfusions, certain blood disorders (such as thalassemia), chronic liver disease, or from taking excessive or unnecessary iron supplements. In rare cases, you may develop hemochromatosis if you have too much iron in your diet. Hereditary hemochromatosis is the most common genetic disorder in white people, especially those of Northern European descent. Hemochromatosis is much more common in men than in women. Most people with hemochromatosis develop symptoms between the ages of 40 and 60, because excess iron builds up slowly throughout life. Early symptoms include: Fatigue. Joint pain (arthralgias), usually in the hands, hips, knees, and/or ankles. Weakness. Weight loss. Abdominal pain. Decreased sexual drive, including impotence. If hemochromatosis is recognized early, it can be treated before other problems develop. It is treated by removing excess iron from the blood, either by removing blood from the body (phlebotomy) or by taking a medication (chelating agent) that binds to and removes iron from the body. Inherited hemochromatosis requires treatment throughout a person's life. Acquired hemochromatosis does not need further treatment once the condition has been corrected. http://my.webmd.com/hw/health_guide_atoz/sth149691.asp?navbar=hw6212

Guest guest
I haven't taken iron in months----maybe a year. And I had gastric bypass surgery and iron is one of the elements that I cannot absorb directly from food. And not from ferrous sulfate either. It's supposed to be in the form of ferrous fumerate. My stomach surgery was 4 years ago, and during the first 2 years after surgery, my iron was low and ferritin was in the basement. I took my supplements in year 3, but like I said, not during the past year. Yes, I am on 6 grains of Armour daily Thanks, Lab Experts Needed Hi, I just got my lab results back and need a little help interpretating them. Guest guest
, Thanks for your response. Do you think I should increase Armour or just the T3? Guest guest
i say go with the armour. you need to get both your t3 and t4 up, and armour will do both. you don't want to be just in range, or in range, you want to be pushing the top of the range, at least. just my 2c. best, baron > > , Thanks for your response. Guest guest
Oh Janie, now your scaring me. So is the answer to increase T3 or decrease ferritin, or both??? the only chelating that I know of goes through an IV. Is there also a pill? I have all of the symptoms that you listed except for the weight loss. But then again, don't most of us here, before treatment? I don't know of any relatives that had hemochromatosis. What is it that you test for? Thanks, Re: Lab Experts Needed , duh on me. Your high Ferritin is probably WHY you have low free T3!! It's binding the T3. Guest guest
See if you can get a % of iron saturation. Both your ferritin and iron are elevated. Could be the early signs of hemochromatosis. Louise > > Whoa!! I am not an expert as to what amount of Ferritin is too high, > but yours looks WAY too high. Guest guest
cindi, I still feel kind of tired and sluggish, with brain fog, poor memory, painful joints. I wanted to have lab work done before increasing the Armour because it seemed to me that I was taking a large dose compaired to most people on the list here and I didn't want to over due it before seeing where my labs were. Guest guest
M. Have you been taking iron? How long have you been on this dose of thyroid, so that we can see whether the dose you mentioned has " come into being " yet (the T4)? If you have not been taking iron, then this is looking like iron overload. Really, regardless or whether you've been taking iron by mouth or not, this is iron overload. What did your doctor tell you about this? Lab Experts Needed > > Hi, I just got my lab results back and need a little help interpretating them. Guest guest
Yes, you could use another 15 to 30 mgs more of Armour, but it could be that very high ferritin making you feel this way also. You can feel bad either from lack of iron OR an overload. That iron is entirely too high. I'm thinking that maybe you don't drink 6 to 8 glasses of water per day maybe? This needs to be looked into, and you DO need those RBCs and WBCs also. Glad you're having it redrawn. Guest guest
Hi , No, I'm not taking iron now, not in about a year. My doctor hasn't seen the results yet. Actually it was my psychiatrist who wanted me to had the labs drawn. But I'm going to send a copy to my medical doctor too. I've been taking 6 grains of Armour for 8 weeks.
