Tonight my kids only ate half of what was on their plate (so we just told them

to put tinfoil over their plates at they can have it as part of their lunch

tomorrow.) ;-)

You know, a while ago, I happened to be back at my old middle school and saw all

these 12-13 year old (or so) girls and they all had little bellies. It didn't

look fat or freakish, it just struck me as what girls at that age look like,

before they get hips. It was strange for me because I remembered being in that

phase, but not thinking of it as a phase at all but rather how enormous and

disgusting I was, and certainly not noticing that many people around me looked

the same way.

I really, really wish my mother had not also been a dieter and had allowed so

much of a dieting environment in our house. It wasn't her fault really, it's

how she was raised too, and she just didn't know. This was before teen magazines

even started to claim to care about having realistically-sized models.

Nobody made me go on a diet, but nobody discouraged it, or tried to tell me my

body was normal and not disgusting and all foods are equal, etc. My life would

have been so, so different if they had. Just completely different.

So I just want to encourage you in doing IE with your daughter. :) This really

ought to be stopped in the next generation.

puberty (and although I could have been a lot worse) I have now changed my poor

dd's healthy attitude toward food into a prediet mentality. I think at 13, I

have caught this early enough so that my learning about IE will pass on to her

and she can go back to her normal, healthy self. I really hope.

Thanks Thea. Much appreciated. Good reminded as to how to view it correctly!

Martha,I like the way you think about food. I think your children will grow up with a healthy attitude and not over eat and not feel guiltly when they do have snacks. Subject: Re: as long as I'm having a posting attack....lolTo: IntuitiveEating_Support Date: Friday, May 29, 2009, 9:31 PM
