My understanding has been that California tried to pass it into law that

noone could order their own testing, but that The People strongly protested

this, and it was either repealed or never went into effect. New York was

the next one that I heard about, and it is now supposedly law in New York,

but not California.

As I wrote before here, there's private labs in California (at least one an

hour's drive from me) where anyone can order their own lab tests. Their rates

are low since they aren't connected with any HMOs or Medicare/MediCal. So one

pays out of pocket only.
