Hi Tracie,

As usual, thank you for your response.

If I understood you correctly, you have gotten these type of lesion on old chicken pox scars? ... regarding chicken pox, I had them at 5, but not as badly as the other neighborhood kids who we all obviously contracted to/from each other at the same time.

When I was 22, I developed what I thought were some kind of "bug" bite all over my arms. My doctor took one look at them and said that I had chicken pox. I told him that I already had them as a child; he replied, "and you have them again". Someone later told me that if you do not have a bad case as a child, you can get them again. (I have no recollection of who that person was or if that is true, but we all know that once you contract chicken pox, the virus lays dormant and can later attack you as shingles.) Anyway, this 2nd case of "chicken pox" at 22 looked nothing like the chicken pox you would see on a child ... which also led to my surprise when he made that diagnosis. My niece had recently had chicken pox, so I assumed I caught them from her. And, at that young age, however, all that mattered to me was that I was told to stay home from work for a week until I was no longer contagious. I didn't feel sick at all, so hey...worked for me. The only thing I could not do was to be around my little cousins and stay away from my pregnant girlfriends.

I'm glad you brought that up ... I need to remind my doctor that some of my "skin" outbreaks (I have several various kinds) often look just like the ones I had when I was 22. I'm not referring to the ones in the pic's I sent ... these look like little bug bites. I have had these for years on and off also. So, if I truly had chicken pox at 22, then I've been walking around with them since then!

My aunt contracted shingles last Christmas -- one week after her flu shot ... we have recently learned that many in our area developed shingles after his/her flu shot. My poor aunt has shingles of the eye ... she has a red, triangular-shaped "blotch" which begins about 2 inches above the hairline and extends down to the side of her nose. She has had several "eye seizures" ... this is a very strong woman who does not complain or cry ... I called her one day in May ... she was "wailing" in pain ... I called a cousin close by to her and had her take her to the ER. My poor aunt is still suffering horribly. She thinks her pain is not as bad as mine, but I know that her pain is much worse ... although I do have nerve pain in the buttocks, down the legs, and into the feet, I do not believe that I have shingles since I've seen many doctors recently ... I'll just have to wait and see what the dermatologist says this time. Unlike my last visit to her when I would break out in these lesions every few minutes, these seem to be breaking out more at night. I remember from last 2 times I had biopsies, they wanted a "fresh" sore as it was breaking out. They (2 dermatologists I saw) indicated that I would need to return to the office when one was breaking out in order to biopsy. I looked at both of them and laughed and said, "you honestly think that when these things are itching, I am going to make the 1-1/2 hour trip to your office without scratching?!?!...I'd have to first make a stop at the mental ward!" Fortunately, as I mentioned, I was able to provide fresh samples while in the office. This time, however, may not be so easy since, although I break out daily, it is not every few minutes.

Thank you for the website ... I did look at it, and felt a little more comforted (in that I am really hoping I am not dealing with an additional illness or disease causing the lesions). I clicked on the "tell me more" icon, but it took me to a page where I could subscribe to newsletters ... which I proceeded to do until it asked what field of medical technology I was in. I did not proceed any further. Were you able to access more info than that which was shown on the first page?

Thanks again, "Dr." Tracie!,

Joan

I too had lesions on my leg like yours and my dermatologist gave me 3 injections into each wound and he said that it would kill the sarcoid and it did and they finally healed but still have scars from them. Also was cultured and they were growing a staph infection which i was also treated for. The had a large amount of drainage coming from them too.

Yep, they come up on 2 scars under my breast, and each time I've seen them- they've been raw looking exactly like your photos-- and then my lungs go into super flare. I got cp when I was 25. I never had them as a kid. Right after the CP, I ended up with both types of measles--German and 3day. Followed by pneumonia. That actually was the beginning of this nightmare.

Hi Rhonda,

Thank you for your reply ... have you developed additional lesions after the initial injections?... my lesion "flare-ups" have come and gone for years ... I always have 1 or 2, but in flare-ups, have many. Do you remember what it was that your dermatologist injected you with?

Thanks for the info!,
