Guest guest
Barbara- Thank you so much for your ideas of grants and contacting the LLL. I will do that first thing tomorrow. I wasn't able to get a hold of the LC at the Naval Hospital - maybe they will have a program also. I have to admit that I was kind of disappointed during my stay in the hospital...not once did anyone check my positioning or see if I had any bf questions. Good thing I had bf my other two and knew what I was doing!! Guest guest
I wanted to give Vicki some more information about pump rental. I don't know what type of pump you are trying to rent, but when I ran a Medela pump rental station (about 2 years ago)we were able to grant one pump a month free of charge. In others words, every month I was able to waive the rental fee on one pump. The rental was credited to me by Medela in attempt to get pumps into the hands (or on the breasts) of women who need them. Try to call Medela pump stations in your area to see if you can get a grant. Also, I always had extra tubing and parts sitting around. The catch here is that unless autoclaved, these pieces can't legally be resold or reused. But the reality is that the chance of cross contamination is infintesmal. Anyway, they might be relectant to give you a used kit, but I though I'd pass that on. Good luck! Medela #1-800-TELL-YOU. Does LLL in you area rent pumps? As a non-profit, they probably grant or discount pumps. To Amy, my husband never wanted to buy a crib, but gave in after I cried. (We laugh about it now) My first barely used it after the two horrible nights we let her cry it out. Since then our babies have always slept with us. We didn't have a crib for #2 and don't have one now. Try reading THE FAMILY BED. The book OUR BABIES, OURSELVES by Meredith Small has a whole section on sleeping practice across many cultures and surprise, surprise, most people sleep with their babies. It is mucho beneficial to breastfeeding as mom and baby don't have to be fully roused two or three or four times a night. By the way, how radical is this group? I have some information about the hazards of artificial baby milk (aka formula) I'd like to share if people are interested. I don't want to step on toes here but as Wendi mentioned--Education for Life. Guest guest
I would love to have the info also. As a mom who goes back to work next week, I need all the encouragement I can get for pumping! and Emma 3-30-

I would personally love to read what you have about ABM. I know that when someone first told me that there were risks to formula, I was quite surprised. I was even more surprised that there are no safeguards for consumers to learn about these risks... and thought that there would be some fairness or truth in advertising. How naive I was. This was the sole reason that I have become a breastfeeding advocate/activist. What I learned was astounding!
