Hi---i just wanted to introduce myself. My anme is CIndy. I am an RN and

live in VA. I am mother to 2 year old Makenzie. SHe was born with a rare

intestinal illness and had all of her intestines remove at 4 weeks old. She

lived

on TPN for 16 months and then had a rare small bowel transplant in Pittsburgh

in April and is mostly doing well. I have always struggled with my weight but

have reached an all time high of 300 pounds while we literally lived in the

hospital for the last two years. My gastric bypass is scheduled for Feb 16th

and im a little freaked out about it. It will be done open as that is the only

way the surgeon here will do it. Can someone give me an estimate how long it

is going to take until I am able to care for my daughter completely--I am a

single mom to her and her care is still complicated--port a cath--Iv meds--etc

and all the while looking completely healthy and running wild like any two

year old. What other things can i start working on now in this last six weeks

to

make everything easier? I have met with a dietician but havent exactly

gotten a clear picture. The surgeon is one I have worked with for years--so i

didnt have to do the normal waiting period--my first visit with him was 2 weeks

ago and now surgery is right around the corner----help???!!!---CIndy in VA

Hi , welcome to our group. I would say you should be able to

do most of the care for your daughter after 2 weeks. The thing I

would start working with her on is to start getting herself up on the

bed or table. You are not going to be able to lift her for probably

about 3 monthes. Of course this depends on your dr. guide lines. If

you can get her used to climbing a stool to get to her highchair or

into bed before handIt well be so much easier after. I remeber after

my 2nd c section I went to put my 17 month old to bed. I had always

carried her up stairs and placed her in bed. When I tried to get her

to walk up the stairs, we both ended up in tears. Good luck on your

up coming surgery.

Hello!

My Name is Felicia and after many years of emotional twisting over this decision

I have finally decided to have weight loss surgery. Once I swallowed my fear I

found that I was at a loss on where to start. I have been doing a lot of reading

but am still not sure exactly where to start in getting this process going. I

currently weight 364 pounds and I am 5'5 " . Last time I was at a doctor was well

over a year ago on a second attempt at taking Merida ( which *sigh* failed). And

I havent been back since. I havent had any work ups done since my son was born

in 2000. Basically just to scared to go in due to my weight. Anyways lol to my

point. I would love any helpful information on where to start and how to get

going. I already know that my Insurance will not cover it BUT the nice lady at

the ins. company did say I should still put in a request to have the procedure

done once I knew more.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.

Felicia
