Guest guest
Doesn't sound like it throws anything off at all. You are aware yo0ur body wants certaint hings at certain times, that sounds like intuitive eating to me. Guest guest
Hi Styxia, I " feed a cold " too, you are not alone I think the way to eat IE-style while sick is to (to the best of your ability), feed yourself what nurtures you while you don't feel well. That may be different than what you eat when healthy!!! The trick is to keep an open mind about what you *really* want - rather than just eating what it's your " habit " to eat when sick. The hard part for me is to stop when full, somehow when sick I particularly want the " comfort " of a full belly, then I eat 4 servings of mac & cheese instead of just 1! Hope you feel better soon!! Guest guest
Thanks for all your answers. :-) It just seems so weird craving all different foods right now. However, I noticed that the foods I crave are quite " intense " tasting: very sweet, very salty etc. but not spicy. I think it's because the ability to taste foods is quite diminished when you have a cold. At the moment I have little cakes at home that looked good at the store and wanted to try. I ate one a few days ago and thought " they're too sweet, I won't buy them again " but didn't throw them out because hubby wanted to try them, too. Now they seem to have the right sweetness. I think it's interesting that so many people crave " light foods " when they're sick. Broths and tea, and that they lose their appetite when they're down with a cold. Err, I just discovered three shoulds/irrational thoughts: " I should crave light foods when sick because people are supposed to do so " and " Normal people lose weight when they're sick " and " I should lose most of my appetite when I'm sick because all normal eating, naturally thin people do so. " I also realise (did so last time and this time seems to prove it) that I tend to eat out of boredom when I'm sick, something I usually don't do or only very rarely. I slept through most of the afternoon yesterday and today but could notice it anyway. s.
Guest guest
That is very interest. For me whenever I am sick. I tend to drink a lot of 7up or Spirte they help and work even better than water. I always crave for some type of soup depend on mood but never plain because they get boring and not so great taste at least to me. I usual have cup of noodle chicken I prefer. Eggs that you can add whatever you want to it. Ham, turkey, sausage.. Though sausage usual little bit too almost like spicy during sick peroid so I would rather use ham. Ham has quite salty in it own resource. Depend on how I hungry for from time to time. Eliza > > Thanks for all your answers. :-) > > It just seems so weird craving all different foods right now. Yes, I prefer feeling fuller then, too. I also appreciate the feeling of food in the throat when swallowing more then. s.

Why do you think the 2nd thought ("normal people lose weight when they're sick") is irrational? Cindi
Guest guest
I actually usually gain, but it's probably mostly due to having water weight gain because when I'm sick I don't drink enough water (dont' want to) and then I retain more water. Guest guest
That is very interest. To be honest it does not matter thin or overweight people eat little or a lot. Myself I am overweight yet while sick I lost a lot weights. Couple years ago my sister had to dragged me to hospital because she had noticed unusual and I was stuck in bathroom for nearly an hour throw up. Doctor said I have had lost 5 lbs in 4 days was not good especially how lack of foods in my body. He give me a few shots along with Bendyal and afterward I gain back what I lost those 4 days. Guest guest
really? I never thought of retaining water and weight gain when I'm not drinking enough water.Subject: Re: IE when sickTo: IntuitiveEating_Support Date: Tuesday, June 23, 2009, 1:27 PM I actually usually gain, but it's probably mostly due to having water weight gain because when I'm sick I don't drink enough water (dont' want to) and then I retain more water. Guest guest
My Dr. said to me once that I was the only patient that he knew of that could gain 10 lbs. when they had pneumonia. So I can relate!! As soon as I start to feel sick or have a headache, I think ... if I eat something I will feel better. Which is never the case...... what I really need is to feel taken care of, but I have yet to learn how to do that. Work in progress ...
