Guest guest
Fionna, I've just recently started losing weight. I've managed to lose about 5 lbs in a two week timeframe. I've not done anything special, other than I was rather busy for at least a week of that, running back and forth to the hospital when my brother was hospitalized for a heart attack. I would get home and be too tired to eat, or I'd stop and have a bite of something, leaving most of my food on the plate. I am not following any special diet, and I've never been one for just veggies. I hear it's a good way to eat, but I love a little cow too much to try it. Are you on any type of thyroid meds? And are you being tested for the FreeT3 and FreeT4? When mine are low, it doesn't matter if I eat or not, I'm not gonna lose one ounce, much less a pound. SandyE~Houston losing weight as a vegetarian Are there any vegetarians on the group? I need to lose weight, but I do not like to eat that much meat. I do like eggs and diary products. I have read that most thyroid people need to eat more protein to lose weight. Can anyone suggest a vegetarian diet? Guest guest
Hi Fionna, I was a vegetarian and felt I relied too heavily on eggs, dairy and wheat. These foods are all not great for the weight... unfortunately! I cut them all out for 6 months completely and instead ate more fish for dinner with rice or potatoes, veggie currys, coconut currys, veggie chilli, rice/corn pasta; I made rice or quinnoa salads for lunch; and had porridge or oaty granola cereals with Rice Milk or Oat milk for breakfast. I also introduced chicken back into my diet for the first time in 14 years - I eat free range organic only and try to have it twice a week. I also cut out tuna because of the mercury. Also I tried to cut out all choc and sweet stuff and just ate more fruit instead getting a good variety with blueberries, strawbs, apples etc. I discovered egg and dairy free mayonnaise which tastes ok amazingly! I found by following this diet that I got slimmer, plus I do 3 hours of exercise p/w. My digestive system felt very healthy and I stopped getting period pains and afternoon crashes. I actually took a food intolerance test first that told me to cut out certain foods - wheat, dairy, gluten, eggs, garlic were what came up for me, so that helped me on the discipline front because the test was expensive! I was pregnant recently and it all went out of the window as I was sooooo sick and lived on crackers. Unfortunately I miscarried so after I've worked my way through the deluge of chocolate people have bought me I'm going to go back on the healthy stuff.
