okay, thanks for the information

Sharon

My PPO paid 100% except for my copay which was a big ole $ 5.

I did not need a referral to see the surgeon as it is ppo insurance and my

surgeon was Dr. Thayer at Newton Wellesley Hospital.

Good luck!

Also, What is the time period fro recovery. I work and don't have much

sick time/vacation time, how long would I be out of work, does it depend on

the type of procedure I have done?

Sharon,

It does depend on the procedure for recovery time. If Open RNY, it's

usually between the 4-6 wk period (give or take), and with Lap, sometimes as

fast as 2-3 weeks.

Hi There,

I think it has to do with the procedure and how quickly you bounce

back from surgery. I had my gallbladder out 5 years ago, and I was

out 6 weeks, but I had the open procedure on Dec 15, and I went back

to work after 3 weeks, my company approved a 6 week leave, but I just

felt good and wanted to get back into my normal routine.

Good Luck

I used my STD when I had surgery. You don't need to disclose which type of surgery you're having, but the Dr. will write "Major Abdominal Surgery" or something to that effect.

Hope that helps! Check into it with your HR dept.

Hi ,

Thanks for responding..........I'm so afraid of rejection. I choose a PCP

at BMC with the hopes that the doctor I've chosen as my PCP,who I'm told has

referred patients in the past to Dr.Forse, will have no problem with given

me a referral to the surgeon. I must say this is a long process....I see my

PCP on 2-8-01 and the surgeon on 4-12-01, how long does it take to get a

surgery date? Do you mind if I ask you what your weight was before the

surgery and how much do you weight now? Do you automatically qualify for

surgery if you are morbidly obese based on your BMI? I'm 5'5 " and weight

235lbs. I want to pig out before 2-8-01 and 4-12-01 with the hopes that the

more I weight, the better chance I have with getting more surgery approved.

Do I have to have another medical problem such as high blood pressure or

diabetes to qualify for WLS?

Again, , thanks for responding and I'm sure I'll have a hundred more

questions as time goes by.

Thanks!

Sharon

Hi Sharon!!

I couldn't help but notice that you are having your consult with Dr. Forse?

He did my surgery on Halloween, and I think he is the best. If you have any

questions about him, his office staff, the process, anything, please feel

free to email me okay? Also, protein drinks are not all you eat/drink. As

a matter of fact, Dr. Forse would prefer that we get all our protein from

real food sources, because he wants us to lead a normal life, and " normal "

people don't drink only protein drinks. Of course, he doesn't object if you

use them, especially if you need them. I am 11 weeks post op and I have

lost 60 lbs. I eat anything I want and I have no food intolerances.

Good luck in April
