Mari, you are doing good to notice all these things, that is part of doing IE,

especially in the beginning. Its also not unusual to apply the principles - 'a

la dieting' - turning these into hard and fast rules which one either does

'right or wrong'. Such black/white thinking is more the realm of dieting and

will misguide you as you try to apply the IE principles.

I'd say you are doing pretty good - celebrate your little victories and also

know that patience and not beating up on one's self is the best 'first' steps

you can take on your IE journey. Hang in and keep posting!

Best to you, Katcha

My husband has followed my example. I feel a freedom that I've never felt

before.

or " I didn't even eat a half of a sandwich! I'm so good at this. "

like I should have. I'm sure I could've gotten away with way less food.

I try to focus only on satisfaction. I eat until I'm totally satisfied.

Sometimes that means I overeat. Sometimes that means I actually undereat (I

still feel a little hungry, but the thought of eating more kinda makes me sick).

When I tried to focus on hunger/fulless, I felt panicky. When I first switched

my focus to satisfaction, I slightly overate frequently, but I felt really calm.

Now I almost always eat just right. With my focus on satisfaction, that gives

me that complete permission to eat more when I'm having a special meal or

special food, and to eat less when my options are less than palatable to me. I

feel no guilt or panick now. It's easy to eat slowly when I'm looking for total

satisfaction. I look for that bite where I truly don't want another bite at

all. If I'm trying to limit to a certan level of fullness, I panick a bit, eat

too fast, and miss that just right fullness level.

this was really helpful to me too. since i am dealing with some ED issues my

hunger signals are really hard to connect with. the idea on focusing on

satisfaction sounds a little easier.
